Seems harmless enough now. It's the infrastructure I worry about. How about that DNA database they are building on Ancestry.com and the like.

Me too, but I didn't even bother with that site. I don't need to know how many "black sheep" were in my family lineage or where they came from! :lau I'm here now and I have done just fine living life without without those of the past.

I think it is also a side affect of some people’s careers... ;) not complaining mind you, but most of my acquaintances working in tech fields tend to be more aware of the targeted advertising, and collection of personal information. I for the most part couldn’t care less if google knows I need a new mattress because my mic is turned on and I’m griping about my bed being uncomfy  and the random fridge ads? How does Facebook know I need a fridge for eggs? And really do I care? It is interesting... the ads here aren’t targeted for me, yet... I’m half wondering how long it will take for them to hone in on my interests and desires, it’s kind of an experiment :D oh and the rodent control ads were awesome! And reasonably local to me businesses too...
Dynamic pricing is a reason to care. If google knows you want a mattress, or a flight to London, whatever, it can alert it's clients who then raise prices for you.

Nasty underhanded Internet... anyway I usually shop in stores, but some of those foam mattresses are tempting, and my fridge I picked up used locally so :tongue google, Facebook, and amazon! I just found it interesting as I would be discussing it with my cousin over the phone or with my mother near my phone... then suddenly (without ever typing anything in or looking at anything online) ads started appearing on my Facebook marketplace for these things.

Well Google thinks I'm male, in need of a hot date & need some help from Viagra! :lau Really it's just boring & dumb.

Second hand is a great way to buy stuff if you're into data privacy.
