Since her molt, Hattie is spectacular.

Here is a better photo. I have never heard of the ragged feather gene. That's kind of sad. Im sorry yours have it.

She is quite beautiful. Can't wait for my LOs to grow up! They are 5 mos now.
Killer Cat?

Has anyone ever had a cat kill one of their hens? I just flushed a cat from around my coop. When I grew up cats and chickens lived together in barns. I have never heard of a full size chicken being killed by a cat.

In fact, before Aurora came in the big coop today (yes again), this stare down went on. When she camer in, Davis ran away from her. (Then again he is friends with mice, not a great cat example)

Two of my cats have gotten inside the chicken run and neither of them went after a chicken. They just wanted to know why they aren't allowed in there. :gig

My son used to bring home injured birds, and one time he brought home a full sized crow that was injured. We nursed it back to health. The cat we had then approached it out of curiosity and the crow spread it's wings to catch it's balance. :lau Mrs. T, the cat, couldn't get away from that bird fast enough! Scared her to death, and then that was that. She was done with the bird. :lau

Still I don't allow the cats in the chicken run. Why take a chance?

Great! But I don't have time to read through all the 93 pages!;)
93 pages! There were 540 pages when I found this thread! I became so enthralled ( maybe cuz my place is called fluffy butt farms, my girls look like his, and he looks like my cousin has something to do with it LOL), I've been staying up late every night to read it all!
ps to bob: are you my long lost family? lol

This from a homeschooler here... I think this is so cool ...

I Think I Will Help Myself

After all that has happened, I could not say no or run her out of the house. At least I knew she was safe.

Next up a nest in the dining room for them to lay in!

Well if you insist on keeping the food and mealy worms in full view by he door, what's a girl to do? :gig

I think Shad has been a bad influence on you Bob

Lilly was interested in this help yourself feeding today. Hattie is not certain that it is safe in that big coop.

This is one of my girls in a diaper for house visiting. There are buttons for the back to slide folded paper towels in or out for changing. Easy disposable diapers for chickens. I've made one for each of my first six girls cuz they were in a lot!

Uh oh, now you've done it @dirkandlorie . Bob will whip a few of those diapers up and have his girls in the "big coop" 90% of the time!

Please do. One of the reasons I like this group (spread over 3 threads:rolleyes:) is they/we talk about chickens. I know there's a bit of chat in between but some threads now are so depressing reading about everyones troubles, plus some of the culture stuff, I just can't do them anymore. You wouldn't know some of the contributors kept chickens at all.
We all have a personal lives and sure, venting every now and then is fine. But, I joined BYC to talk about chickens.:clap:clap:clap

I agree. Chicken talk is the best! 🥰
