Lilly's Day
You all saw Lilly walking on the deck today. Let me tell you about the rest of her day.
I was able to be "rooster" today and spent the day in the backyard with them. So I was able to observe everything.
The morning was mostly normal until I found Sydney trying to make a nest here.

I flushed her out and blocked it off. I then went to find out why her and Sansa were roaming the yard for a nesting spot.
I opened the coop and found this.

This turned into a real mess. Aurora, Hattie, Sydney and apparently Lilly all needed to lay at the same time. I have 2 nest boxes. That would be half af many as I needed at that moment and Lilly takes forever to lay. Sydney and Aurora were ready to go now and Lilly was blocking both boxes, she did not want anyone laying next her.
In and out Aurora and Sydney went. BAKAWK, BAKAWK, BAKAWK! It was deafening. Finally Hattie solved the problem. Into the coop she went super loud Bakawking, BAKAWK! BAKAWK! BAKAWK!, She got up on the roost. BAKAWK! BAKAWK! BAKAWK!.
I was stunned. I just stood there and a few minutes later, out came Lilly complaining, almost muttering, bawk, bawk, bawk bawk.....
In scooted Sydney and Aurora. Hattie took Lilly to the brush pile and they started climbing. My one legged hen was climbing on the brush pile. I shook my head and let them be.
I went back to trimming bushes that are already getting little leaves.
A few minutes later Sansa is bawking away. I look over and my crippled hen is now on the wood pile!

Tell me again that she has a bad leg! Now no way I was letting her jump down from there so I ran over and scooped her up and put her on the ground.
Lilly starts muttering again, bawk, bawk, bawk, bawk.
Then two hens come rolling out of the coop. Relief on their faces. Sydney and Aurora have laid their eggs.
Hattie gathers up Lilly and in they go. Silence finally Almost two hours later they emerged. Hattie has laid an egg, Lilly has spent 2 hours in the nesting box. No egg.
At least There was silence in the yard.
Lilly got up on the deck begged Mrs Bob for treats, ate them and then took a sunbath.
As the sun goes down the flock misses into the side yard with the brush pile. So Lilly went with them. She was done for the day. While the rest scratched around, she found a spot and sat down.

After the nap, everything was calm. A quick snack of corn, some grass grazing with Hattie and then off to bed.

A full day for any hen, especially one with a lame leg.
What a wonderful day!
