They are really nasty. They will reach those little hands through the wire and pull the chicken to them if they can. That's another reason for hardware cloth. Hands don't fit through.
What I hadn't realized is that they can use the hardware cloth to climb - I can see its muddy footprints on the wire all the way up to the roof! I need to understand how an electric wire will work and not electrocute me. Also whether plugged in or solar with battery. I think I have to sink a ground rod. It is all a bit intimidating!

They can help at tractor supply. I don't know a lot about it. I believe in solar when possible but I worry about sustained charge in the winter with lack of sun. You don't want it falling on you. Does the palace have power?

It’s a palace so of course it has power! Well admittedly only one outlet right now, but it will have one outside as well which would do well for a hot wire. I will explore TSC - they are apparently allowed to stay open (grocery for chickens so classified as essential). But apparently police are turning people back on the roads so I don’t really want to go out until people get used to living like this.

Lilly can Still Intimidate

With Lilly slowed other animals have been taking advantage. It started with the squirrel. Now the ducks have been getting brazen as well.

Today lady duck went to far. Lilly gave her a look and a step and lady duck was on the run. It was like realizing that's John Wayne standing at the bar and you just questioned his manhood.

Luckily, I got it on video, enjoy.

I stockpiled chicken and cat food on Thursday. I get not wanting to go out now. I doubt the 'coons can beak in the palace in the meantime.

It is hardware cloth everywhere, right? I would check all the seems every morning. They will try to pull the wire up.

What? You have ducks too? I didn't know that.

Very wise advice Farmer Bob. Yes, it is hardware cloth everywhere and the coop itself is constructed like a human house with solid walls and real windows with catches and real doors with round door knobs (they will open a lever handle in a heartbeat). I will check the seams every day. They are hog-ringed together. The critters didn't come back last night (unless they ate the camera first!).

I do not have ducks. They are wild and use my pool cover as a pond every spring. Lilly keeps them in line. They try to eat the chicken's food. Lilly runs them off. She once even got on top the male duck one time and rode him for a while, all the time pecking at his head. It was quite a site. I was so surprised I did not think to record it.

Lilly runs this yard. No squirrels or ducks allowed on land, for sure.
