Here is today's pic of Alice showing her feather progress. If you look carefully Bob you'll see why I chose this one for your thread ;)

Yep, the salmons prefer to roost.

They’re possessive about their spots though, aren’t they?! I think River prefers to be on the right but had moved to the left. I put Nyssa on the right as she would have happily roosted on top of an open house all night! River started pecking her on the head! So I grabbed her to move her to the right, and she carried on like she was being murdered! Chooks!!

That's my girl lurking. I hope she is leaving Alice alone during this time.

Alice is looking a little better. I'm starting to feel like all those feathers are going to pop at the same time.

Pecking order dominance at roosting time is one of the hardest things to observe. It's still hard to believe that no one is hurt badly as nasty as it can seem. Such bullying. :(

If I take a deep breath I can bear to look. She still looks painful as hell but I can see she is about to burst out in full glory which will be very exciting!

Worst Place to Dig a Hole

For whatever reason the ladies have decided that the best dust bathing locations are right up against the fence. I can live with this. I don't like it, but I can live with it. Until I saw Lilly doing this.

What makes this a rotten spot for dustbathing? Well first there is no cover. She is literally out in the open, black against the white fence. Second, this is the gate to the side yard. The last thing I need is Mrs BY Bob damaging one of her knee replacements stepping into an unexpected hole while entering the backyard.

So for the first time, I root her out of the spot. Boy let me tell you, there was some complaining going on all day. Whenever she would come by me, bawk, bawk, bawk, bawk, bawk. Just grousing and muttering at me. :rant

Here is an interesting story... For the past couple of days Nilky has been looking weird.. she just stands in a strange position... well this is also when others will “attack” her... I mentioned the attacks on her awhile back.. so I decided to separate her so she could be sick in peace.. I put her and her three daughters (Cochin bantams) out in the new yard.. two of them are broody right now and this is a good time away from the nests for them also... I was out setting up the old coop and stopped to look at her... she walked right up to me! This is VERY odd for her cuz whenever I am around she runs for her life!!!! Like a nut! So I squatted down to pet her a bit.. then I picked her up and I saw this egg laying there! I was so surprised! It was like she came to me to lay this ... I don’t see how as she looked as though she had been struggling for awhile.. I was thinking she was egg bound the way she was acting... so is this a lash egg? She still doesn’t look well.. I am gonna put Cutie with her in the small coop so she isn’t lonely.. when I saw the attacks on her the last time she was looking ill then as well... so I wonder if they are attacking her because she is sick?? Any of yall have an idea? I know some of you mentioned “reminder abuse” but I really don’t believe this is the case here...

I don’t know about a lash egg, but Chickie started laying these when she got sick. Is there any way you can stop her laying; reduce her daylight hours etc. This looks like reproductive issues. Do you have an avian vet nearby? There are hormone implants you can give them but they don’t always solve the problem. It stopped Chickie from laying but I couldn’t fix her infection/issues. Good luck, I hope she gets better. :hugs
