Hesitantly I tell you BOB, my Rhode Island Red 3.5 yrs old, had sour crop this AM. I tried to help drain the mass of stinky fluid. I carefully massaged her crop, tilted her body down, and she let out a lot (3/4 cup) but stopped breathing. choking, and died right in my arms. I buried her this morning, before church. Jaffar is weak, but he ran with the ladies half a day. But He's weak still, and when it turned very windy here, I took him inside. He's here with me right now.
And Rocket, didn't return to eat or drink today with the rest of the flock. That's my sad story!
I’m so sorry that happened featherhead! :(...... I hope Jaffar is 100% soon:hugs

Not going to ever be 100% I just now noticed his slow stepping, was due to a broken toe.
Only adds to his problems, But He's MY rooster, and I love him. And will do all I can for him.:hit:love

Update on my flock: Jaffar is getting even better as of noon, and "rocket" graciously honored me with her presence just now. I gave her some meally worms, besides regular feed. She is loudly proclaiming with a broody "kuk, kuk, kuk" that she has a nest somewhere. Now I know she is safe, and even seems bigger now, than when she went broody last week. To me this is EGG-celent news! :wee:celebrate:yesss:
You need to follow her so you know where she has decided to build her nest!

I did follow her. And found out she's a genius! She found a safe area that I air condition in the heat of the day. Just below the subfloor of my kitchen thru a breech in the outside wall.:clap

Sounds like a very clever chicken! That is so cool - A/C I can imagine makes it nice and comfortable. Hope it is safe.

No, but I figured why not. I have a few friends looking for chicks anyways, so I'll likely just give them away once they're bigger.
There is nothing in your mind telling you how ironic it is that you are taking my hens and giving yours away? Not that I mind. I'm glad to know mine will go to a great place. :D
