Don't make that decision so soon. Daisy, the greatest hen ever, was a wolf woman as at 6 weeks i could get nowhere near her. It was insane. I had to be very careful. I was afraid that she would get away and that would be that. I would never be able to catch her.

Instead she become The Greatest Hen Ever and super lappy. In fact their were times I had to put her down because I had other stuff to do. Just keep spending time with them. You never know.

Oh don’t worry, I won’t give up. And really it is their choice not mine. Trouble is they are so darn fast that I need to worry about catching them as I introduce them to the Chicken Palace more widely.

Lipping the Boxes

if anyone was wondering why I put the high board in front of the nest box. It was to prevent this.

Unfortunately snakes are quite capable of climbing a near vertical wall. A lip on a nest box will not stop them getting in. I did mention further back that a fine mesh type gate at the front of the nest box was worth considering. I use them here at night quite often to prevent snakes, other chickens and rats from getting into the nest box during the night. Day time is not an issue. Mum will be out and about with the chicks hopefully.

Here I am working on getting them to like me. They do like going up high so I am providing elevator service. They are so precious clinging to my finger!

A Very Special Present

This has been a very special week at Fluffy Butt Acres. It was already great with the birth of the little chickies. It got especially so yesterday when a wonderful present arrived at my house.

Back when Maleficent passed @Shadrach reached out to me personally and said that he wanted to do something to commemorate her passing. Yesterday it arrived.

Someone once described his lamps as "tactile". That is truly an apt description. You cannot appreciate how wonderful they are until you can touch them.

This is one of the most special things I can remember receiving. Not that I would ever forget Maleficent but this lamp is the perfect commemoration for one of the lights of my life. It is truly a work of art.

Thank you so much Shadrach. :hugs :hugs
