Wow that's a lot going on! I know others who do quail. Have you ever raised them before?

Snack Time!

Hattie has been sleeping on the coop floor, right next to the coop camera. I though it might be cooler on the floor.

Tonight, 1 hour after she went to bed, I logged on the camera to check the roosting situation with the littles and I caught her. Red beaked! Now I know why she is sleeping on the coop floor.

I left food and water in the coop for the Littles. I see that Hattie would like the food to remain. How hungry can she be 1 hour after bedtime!

You are right in a way. They drink the extra water to cool down. The extra water creates diarrhea which helps to pull heat out of them. This results in messy bums.
Hmmm. I was already worrying that the Princesses aren’t drinking enough. And now I am worrying that their poop isn’t runny. Honestly these Princesses just have me worrying all the time!

Galvanized items if ingested can cause Zinc toxicity. They are fine if not ingested. But remember chickens explore things with their beaks so might peck at something and ingest it.
normally it comes from ‘hardware disease’ - bits of wire or nails left lying around.

So the girls are having a sleepover in the garage tonight. It’s been blowing a gale all day and bucketed down pretty much all day too. Their bedding is all wet again as they’ve soaked it, plus water has got into the pre-fabs because they’re, you know, cheap. :rantSo I broke out the dog crates, put Teff hay in there, dusted them down and put them in the garage (which is dry and wind-proof). I went and got the girls one by one (they were saturated!) I toweled them all down as best I could (I couldn’t access a powerpoint to blow-dry them), popped Lucy and Charlie in thè smaller crate and the Faverolles in the bigger one. I gave them some food and said goodnight to them. I don’t want them catching pneumonia!
