I'm not sure if its the same thing but I have seen several hens in my flock do what looks like a mount/not a mount. Morrigu does it fairly regularly to the junior Campines. I've seen Mhari do it to the Wyandottes. It doesn't seem to be about sex with my lot but about dominance & who's who in the rankings. Aoife will be rather pushy & Morrigu will run her down & do the mount thing. She seems to prefer to grab onto the neck feathers but Aoife's quite a bit bigger than she is. Mhari did it to Wrold last night over a feeding dispute. All Wrold did was flare her hackles when Mhari was done.
The few times I've seen hens sit on other hens it was about dominance.

Knock is out of the coop now having had her clutch of eggs confiscated and strangely, Donk's behavior is showing signs of returning to normal. There is no linear hierarchy in Tribe 3. Myth is senior in years and status to Donk and senior in years to Knock who is Donks daughter. But, Knock doesn't like Myth and in all but years is senior to Myth. Myth gives way to Knock.
When Knock isn't there Donk is the most junior hen and she doesn't seem to like it. With her daughter Knock there she has someone to boss about which she does.
Donk has been moulting but it's the slowest moult I can recall. The coop floor has lots of Donk's feathers on it. but Donk doesn't seem to be missing any. The only real clue are her tail feathers which are on the short side atm.

Shad, I think you should draw up a giant family tree of your tribes to help us keep track. :lau

You looking at me?
Hey - you looking at me?

This was the lovely Dotty, a bit jealous as I was paying attention to Minnie. The young ladies are getting wattles. How cute. And I am fascinated how they are going to fit a comb in with their little hats. Looks like the combs are kind of deformed. I assume it is going to be OK as they both look more-or-less the same.
They are so cute! How fun that we both got Cream Legbars this year.😊

I had the same reaction. I know @Shadrach kerps records. I think he should post a family tree so we can all follow along.
we could even print it out and pin our favorite pictures of each chicken by their name.
maybe it could even be an Advent calendar!
Ok, apparently my idea was not so original. We’re all having the same thoughts on this one. :)

The chicks are exhausted from all their running around outside. They cuddled up in the little carrier, so I brought them back in. Bob, I think low 50’s is not going to work just yet. I took them out this morning when it was high 50’s. At first, they explored the little red coop area. But after awhile, Flo was puffed up and screaming her head off, so I brought them back in until it got to 70°. They had a lot of fun outside, and it’s always Flo who calls for me or seeks me out. I’m so happy I get to hand raise them this year, even though it’s a ton of work. I’ll take them back out in a bit, but needed to give my lungs (and headache) a break from the poor air quality. Poor girls must feel lousy from it.

Here’s a nice, clean fluffy butt for you all. And green legs! This is my first chicken with green feet. I think they’re so cute!
