Thank you. As long time participants in this thread know I am absolutely besotted with them! I believe they are Crested Cream Legbars. But I don't know much about breeds so I am just waiting to see how they develop. If that is what they are they will apparently lay blue eggs but they aren't close to laying yet I don't think.

Yes, I believe they are crested cream legbars, too.

I thought that's what they were! I have a Sapphire Olive egger...she is a FBCM crossed with a Cream Legbar...that is my best guess anyway, she was a surprise when I bought what I thought were 4 FBCM! I'm hoping to add a couple of the Legbars to my flock next year and breed them with my FBCM rooster/s.

Edit to add: If your girls lay a green egg instead of blue then they are probably a Marans/Cream Legbar cross!

Serious question on this. Sometimes on Picture of the Week you see chickens - usually roosters I think - who seem to be tethered by their leg. It looks like they have a leash fitted to their ankle that presumably stops them running away. Do people really do that? That seems unkind. Is it a show thing? I was shocked the first time I saw it but then I saw it many more times so I wondered if I just didn't understand enough. Maybe it is just for the photo shoot?

Oh gosh, I’ve never noticed that. It seems like they could hurt themselves like that.

That's Mag, with the hens, doing what he should. He's attentive, protective, does all the running around but a looker he isn't.
I'm fond of Mag. He reminds me of myself.

Only the One-Year-Olds

Only my one-year-olds, Dorothy, Ester and Minnie, are laying! Everyone else is molting, except Lucky and the chicks. Ok... I guess I should start calling them pullets.
Anyway, Lucky continued to lay after her broken, soft egg ordeal, but the last couple days she’s been steering clear of me and won’t squat. I sense a molt coming on! I’ve only ever had one hen lay through molt. That was Bagheera, who never stopped laying and never molted until she was about 2 1/2!

This is stupid, a grown man (with my history), crying over a lost pet. Well, so what! He was my roo. and my friend, I miss him beyond any imagination. But By Bob, say the word, and I will never make a scene like this in your forum again.

You are not making a scene - we are all here for you. I cried when the fox took Scary (RIP Scary) and here I am now posting tributes to Maggie who seems hale and hearty and all just because the vet told me she would die soon and offered to euthanize.
We all feel your pain.
