OK. I’ll play. He is all of the below:
- a long-legged stunner (LLS)
- an orange-legged adventurer (OLA)
- a barred rock (BR)
Did I get it right?
His feather pattern looks like BR, but his long orange legs look like no other breed than Stanley. So he might perhaps be a Bitsa after all.
Perfect! You nailed it. Look how smart you are getting. You are an excellent student. A+

The Block

Years ago when the flock was three, I hung a seed block in the coop in the winter. I did this because the winter was fierce and they were locked in the coop. I wanted to provide them something other than just feed to give them a way to spend the time. Daisy, the greatest hen ever, and Patsy loved it. Daisy was so protective of it, I added a second higher one for Patsy. Lilly always had to wait to get a turn.

I have not had to lock them in like that really since then. Somewhere along the way I replaced one of the seed blocks but it has been so long ago I could not tell you when. You can see, one of the block holders is hanging empty. Lilly still uses them but I have not seen anyone else do so. I caught Lilly at the block yesterday. At the pace she is getting stuff of of the block, I may not need to replace it again in her lifetime.

He is a Bitsa. He's half barred rock for sure, but mom could be any of my brown layers. He's actually getting a few brown saddle feathers.

I need to try and get some pictures, but I can only touch him after dark. He loves to hang around us, but he doesn't like to be petted. I'm ok with that. I prefer my boys a bit standoffish.

Yup. They are very large and have no fear of humans at all. There are way too many around my house these days. On a calm clear day you can hear them calling out in the distance. I know that @CrazyChookChookLady has seen a Bald Eagle up her way. I've never seen one around my house. Nor have I seen any Owls but I know they are around.

For me, arial attacks will come from red trailed Hawks almost exclusively. Its a hard lesson I learned when one of them killed Dolly while she was out free ranging.

We have owls. I hear them at night, but haven't laid eyes on any yet.

We also have coyote and fox. I can hear them calling at night. We are not far from Little Buffalo State Park and they live back there.

We currently have a family of deer living just on the other side of the creek. Of course they don't bother the chickens. I did spread some cracked corn and rye out for the deer and Ned was down eating it this morning.
