We actually had trick or treating tonight. Here was our setup. I sat to the right of the tree. The candy bowl was 8 feet in front of us. This is Mrs BY Bob's favorite holiday. Sadly for the children we were 1 of only 4 houses handing out candy on our street. We let every child take 2 pieces of candy and still only gave away half of our usual amount. 😕

Halloween is both my Favorite and, in some ways, my least favorite holiday. I love the trick or treating, fireworks, and candy (both giving it out and eating the excess... and usually quite a bit beforehand as well) but the toll it can take on the animals is distressing, Bear in mind my friends complaint was less with the children, and more about the parents behavior across the street. Toss in Three raccoons stalking his chicken Yard and I would be edgy and angry as well. He’s working on fortifying his setup but has heavy brush and is in the worst area of the island for predator pressures. I do like the way it is normally done on the island here, but this year has me worried that people may become a little excessive in their partying, as it’s the first real Holiday people have been able to enjoy together of the year.

Usually there’s a big gathering at our Rec Center (which is located far enough from everyone’s housing to not be a big problem) with a pumpkin carving contest, Bratwurts, a bar for the adults, adults bring pails of Candy to give out to the kids. A Bon fire, Big fireworks display by our fire department, and fire extinguisher lessons/practice for anyone who is big enough to use one. Then Music and Dancing until midnight. Keeps the Ambulance calls, drinking and driving, and general mischief down. We have less than 20 kids on island and a lot of land to cover.
The usual Halloween sounds like a great community event up there. 🥰. Pity it couldn't be done this year. Pity about the inconsiderate neighbours too. :(

Hope you had a pleasant shower Kris!

Yes, Halloween🎃 was not the same this year, our daughter's family did do it as people in her neighborhood set up tables for the kids and watched from afar. From her pictures, it looked like it went well.

Sorry you didn't have a bigger turnout, but maybe most people just decide to not do it this year 😞. As long as the kids had fun, I guess that's what matters.

Kris, you are a wealth of information. I find this extremely interesting. My major in college at UC Berkeley was human biology. But then I went on to practice molecular biology. You’d think this would be second nature to me… But it’s not! I still have to really think about it. Extremely fascinating to me.

So does that mean we have a microbiologist and a molecular biologist in our group?
