One of the things I loooooove about BYC is that we all have different personal ideas eg about religion and politics, and we get to be attentive to "the other sides" through our friendships formed because we all love our chickens :love

It really cuts through where other social media platforms fail.
You are so right, My chickens don't vote on where they should poop! :D

That is very kind of you to say. Sometimes I think I share more than I should on this website but it just slips out. Right now I am living in fear that I am going to be pulled into court over something. My heart sank Wednesday afternoon when the election bureau showed up on my phone. Fortunately, it was just someone thought they might have left their drivers license at the polls. I will be so glad when everything is done.

I have to decide whether to run for re-election next year. I have doing this for nearly 16 years now and right now I don’t know if I have the stomach to keep doing it. Posts Ike yours make me feel better about what I have been doing. It truly is much appreciated.
I didn't know you had to be elected to look after the polls on election day. I was thinking of signing up to help in future elections (all part of my retiring plan). I nearly did it for this year and right now very glad I didn't.

Poor Flo. She has a toenail that broke well into the quick. I don’t know if she got it caught in the hardware cloth, or what happened, but Flash has blood on her beak, so I assume she’s been pecking at it. They are getting really crowded in their baby enclosure, so I’m glad I came home early and they have some free range time. I hope to get them fully integrated this coming week. The part that’s injured is blurry, that’s all I could get. You get the idea. Poor thing. I don’t know that I really plan to do anything about it in terms of tending to the injury. Thoughts?

Have you seen some of the decisions set down by US juries? I'm not certain that it would be better.
I'm not certain it would be any better either; at least not immediately. One would need to teach politics in schools to go along with this.
What it would do is take the money out of politics and that would be a good thing imo. Politics would hopefully be seen as a service to the community and not a career to make money.
Looking at the country I came from, the UK, the current incumbents couldn't run a piss up in a brewery. We have tended to get the same class, with similar wealth and backgrounds in our government.
In the UK the civil sevice run the country. Left entirely to the politicians the country would be in a much worse state than it is now. Spain, strangely, in the region I live, is more diverse in both political spectrum and candidate backgrounds. This is partly due to having an undeniably fascist regime for so many years. It made people value being able to make a choice more.
In the UK there was a time when the range of political views and the chances of greater diversity in ideals meant it was possible for a more radical government to gain power. Despite all the rhetoric, I find it difficult to see much difference between one party and another now.
I'll go back to dreaming about a utopia.
Speaking of which. A lesser know book by H G Wells is fascinating given the time of its writing.
