I love that photo. Was it sunrise or sunset? 🥰

I'm glad to have you back. I was wondering what happened to you.

The Chick Pic Tax is turning out better than I dared hope. So many wonderful pictures that people were seeing on and not sharing! 🥰
It's a sunset.

Generally speaking, I have a rather dim view of social media and it's a wonder that I actually created an account here. Two things really compelled me to join this forum and follow your thread: 1) I'm interested in chickens. 2) It seems like there are some very nice and decent people here, and I believe the best of them eventually wind up on your thread. This is good and bad. Because I only have a limited internal capacity for this sort of thing, I'm grateful that I can come to just one spot and get the best of the best. The bad part is that having all the best right here also creates a lot of volume and sometimes I just have to take a break. This creates a major conundrum because I also can't stand to just skip to the end, which means hours of catching up. Oi!

So as I stated in my very first post, my contributions will most likely remain rather sporadic, but my appreciation for all of you contributors will most likely remain quite high!

I just wanted to comment on the respectful nature of this group who knows how to have a civilized conversation. Thank you for being wonderful! I’ll pay my chicken pic tax and post a photo of Dorothy for Bob, since he brought us all together.

Who is that lovely black chicken? You know I have a thing for black chickens!

RC, actually, I missed thst! That’s Flo (short for Florence... I love traditional “Grandma” type names for chickens). Anyway, she’s one of this year’s babies and she’s a Black Australorp. I lost Bagheera last year, and knew I’d get another someday. They seem to be extra cuddly and that feather sheen!

I am with you on the grandma names - I considered Flo for one of the Little Princesses (Dotty and Minnie) and I may add a Flo next year. Flo looks gorgeous and yes, I remember that you lost Bagheera. So beautiful.

Maybe it’s working itself out, Bob.
I am feeling better about things.

If you notice, it looks like Aurora using the high roost might be helping. To do so, she has to roost earlier so less time to harass others.

I did watch from the outside last night. At first Sydney was in and out but she then settled. Phyllis did come running out late after Aurora had gone in. It does feel like Hattie is less insistent on having Daisy's (greatest hen ever) roosting spot these days.

I also think the colder temps may be driving Aurora to the high roost. The most bodies are there so it is likely warmer up high. Aurora is roosting on a piece of plywood on end right now. I am going to add a piece of 2x2 or 2x4 to it so she has better footing up there.

Ah Dorothy........She is just lovely. For some reason this brought a tear of joy to my eye. She has that same intelligent, curious look to her eye that mine had. What a sweetie. 🥰
