I saw this scene on the visit just before I moved here.
There were three chickens (two roosters and one hen) kept in that tiny triangular coop 24/7. They died.

It's nearly as bad as the tourists who have 48 hours in the country & expect to see the Opera House, Sydney Harbour Bridge, Ayers Rock, Kakadu, The GBR, the Nullabor, The Great Southern Road et al in an afternoon's drive.

Even I know better than that!

Strange Beasties

I noticed some strange tracks in the snow tonight when I closed the coop and run for the night. I have to say I have never seen tracks quite like these ever before. Hopefully I can figure out what it is.

An angry male is nothing to be trifled with. They can cause some serious damage. I have a Canadian friend [not @Kris5902 ] who doesn't quite believe me when I say they aren't really all that cute & cuddly. I can quite believe they gave rise to the drop bear mythos.

Well, I did mention the claws... and that they were fairly scary for a herbivore, no? Sort of like the claws on a sloth... I wouldn’t want one trying to climb me. It’s kind of surprising they aren’t more like the drop bear!

And if you zoom in just a little on the shoulder you will notice the giant freaking claws! But otherwise cute and fang-less, I will admit! (Though I’m still not totally convinced the quokka aren’t plotting world domination or something...)
