I was initially using vaseline for egg binding checks and helping keep prolapses moist. The water based stuff in the “family planning” aisle beats it hands down for if you ever have to put a finger somewhere a chicken isn’t going to like it. I’ve had to pull collapsed eggs out of birds as well. Well worth the traumatized cashier from my supply run!

There is a survivalist aspect to it that I enjoy. It's weird I know but I understand the people who brave extreme weather to climb a mountain or something similar. I have operated a oil heater and 1 lamp because a storm has actually knocked out power. There is just something about it. Plus i love the stillness of a big storm like that. The world is quiet in way that you don't get any other time. You can actually hear the snow falling.

If you have watch the Leonardo DiCaprio movie, The Revenant, there is a stunning scene in that film where it is so quiet they captured the sound of falling snow. It is special.

I no longer need to travel and frankly I never leave the house. There might as well be a reason for it.

We don’t get nice, fluffy snow here... we get heavy wet stuff, I really detest it. Dry cold snow you can dress for, and function in, but our stuff soaks you through with ice cold water. It’s heavy enough to snap huge limbs off the trees here. There’s nothing quiet or peaceful about it most times. The sound of falling timber and branches is like gunshots, loud and piercing. Not to mention the freezing slush on the city roads, and all the people that have no clue how to drive in it! Granted snow on our road actually improves traction over our usual winter conditions, of greasy thick mud. You can keep your snow, thanks... even the fun fluffy dry stuff.

That’s good. The drawing ointment will certainly help... it’s done wonders on Roostie. Do you have an expected arrival date at least? Or any other buying options?

There are many wondeful things about Spain. The post office isn't one of them and recently the courier sevices seem to have lost the nearest village.
I've asked around for an alternative, but no luck as yet.

Yesterday was irrigation day here—the first in some time due to a scheduled pause over the holidays. The last few had also been at night. These chickens range from 5 to almost 10 months old, so the rush of water was an unwelcome surprise at first.

We have a fingerprint time clock at work, at some point last Spring it decided I just didn't have fingerprints anymore. I think it was a combination of all the yardwork and the way I run the fabric through my hands. Luckily it can also use cards!

We have a Cooper's hawk that is hanging around right now, and we have ferrell cats. Had one get one of my Heritage RID'S once. . Thinking they would be safe in one? And, no scratching the lawn. Oh, for those of you that left a surprise face on my post on that...they don't eat..all..of the green... thinking it just dries up fast on that side because we don't water it. Weeds and bugs for the chickens until then.

That makes excellent sense then. Great for hawk protection.
