Oh and that reminds me. My soulmate was a Plymouth Rock, I thought that was the same as a barred rock. I think your research suggests they are different. Did I understand that right? Do I know a Plymouth Rock? Bridge and Rocks-Anne and Sydney are all Barred Rocks. Right?
I know, it doesn't matter. They are all lovely chickens regardless. Just curious!

Bridge, Rocks-Anne, and Sydney are all Barred Rocks or Barred Plymouth Rocks.

Barred Rocks are a type of Plymouth Rock. There are other Plymouth Rocks. Plymouth Rocks can be:

• Barred
• Blue
• Black
• Black Frizzled
• Buff
• Colombian
• Partridge
• Silver Penciled
• White

All but Whites and Barred are rare. We raised White Rocks when I was a wee lad as meat birds.

Beautiful eggs though. Are the light ones from your polish? A bit smaller?

Thank you. I am very grateful for them. That is correct. They are Phyllis's eggs. They should be white. Even they tend towards brown a little.

Yes. But I confess, I love it when they take days off. I want them all around for years to come and I don’t much care if they’re laying or not during those years so long as they’re healthy and happy!

I am with you there. Less frequent egg laying = longer life. I don't mind them resting. I like it.

I am sure she will slow down in a couple of weeks. She is just excited to get started.

The barred and Dominique are fiesty. I've had them. I was at the feed store..like I gave up the other day...I tap lightly on the window to see who comes when I'm picking them out. Tapped on the barred rock window, those babies were jumping, I mean jumping over each other to get to that tapping! Probably great foragers.

Sydney is obsessed with food. She is always eating, foraging, theiving from others and finding food wherever she can. I believe that she is an excellent forager.

Hopefully all my pictures cooperate this time... just popping in to say Hi and share what I’ve been up to. Chicks are doing well, I did lose one that was much smaller and clearly not doing well from the beginning. Arduinna has been enjoying spending time at the other farm as there is lots of grass there. Yesterday was a solid day of cooking freezer meals, until after dark even, and today I’ll be packing them up. The chickens of course felt I needed “help” with all the cooking, and when I was adding the chicken to my gumbo they were so helpful I gave in and tossed them a mostly bare drumstick. Watching them run around with it was quite entertaining.

I did some outside clean up and put together the outdoor kitchen a bit

Tomorrow I will be picking up a “vintage” 1970’s camper for my truck hopefully. I plan on restoring it and insulating the heck out of it, so DH will have nicer accommodations for traveling to work this year, and as a back up for if we decide we need to leave the farm. Wish me luck, the jacks are clearly not functional, and I’m not sure how we are going to get it up onto the trailer. But it’s Dry and mouse free, so I’m going to pick it up either as a project or more chicken housing!

Oh Phyllis, you sweet dear, Louis sends his apologies and say's you should get special house privileges today with your favorite treat. He has decided that yes, winter is almost over. He's joined the boys and all 3 are exploding, hair everywhere. The ground, stall walls, me. I'm still sneezing after loving on them yesterday. It's so nice out today, if you overlook that we are under a flash flood watch, and if you walk anywhere in the yard your up to your ankles in mud. All my chickens are happy, warm muddy yard means earthworms are everywhere, and they are having a feast.

Phyllis forgives his doubt. Phyllis forgive everyone their doubt. It was after all her first prediction.

So nice to hear from you Kris. Sounds like things are going pretty well. Looks like Arduinna has got her climbing gene functioning well!

Just dropping in to say hello.

I've had a very busy couple of days, I've sterlised my girls coup and their run. Whoever said this was easy was having a joke but they are so worthwhile. They're not laying very many eggs but as @FransGran has said that's a very good thing because they are healthy.

It's good coming in and catching up with you all, those fox pictures are pretty scary. Thank goodness you have that lovely palace. I'm sorry for your loss and sorry for not noting your name.
