Well, my friends, as though I don’t already have too much to do, I have a new project on top of the rest... thistle and rose bush eradication. I think they may be the prime culprits when it comes to the bumblefoot issues. Dean’s is all cleared up, but he’s still getting pedicures for potential SLM/rough skin, as is Sammy. I keep threatening Cass because his legs are starting to look a little rough as well. The feathered feet are a PITA when it comes to determining “is that a problem or just the feathers”.
Roostie is still on the to do list, (waiting on his eye now, Shad if you do remember which does what, it’s his left that was affected). I caught another (earlier) case of bumblefoot in one of the Red Rock pullets, but with also quite extreme swelling, it seemed to balloon up over night! So thankful for finally having antibiotics on hand... The only thing I can think of is the rose bushes and thistles that could be causing this. I will look over their roosts again when I next deep clean the coop, but really, it’s just crazy here right now.
I am thanking my lucky stars that Chickie Hawk isn’t running into any issues, I don’t think I could handle that even with DH’s help! We checked his feet very thoroughly when we moved him to repair the tractor last month, and he still managed to draw blood and give me a few good bruises even with a towel, and through two layers of long sleeves. He just had a couple little bloody spots where his ladies had plucked out his foot feathers again, but otherwise all nice and normal.
