I will never forget my BEN either.
Haven’t read ahead yet, Alex, but I’m hoping there’s some good news..I thought “the rain in Spain, stays mainly on the plain”. I’m kidding Shad. It’s an attempt to stay positive for my situation. Love your birds.![]()
Congrats, Shad, that’s great and well deserved!!I've been looking though the articles I've written for BYC trying to decide whether to write any more. I did win a couple of prizes but most of what I've written doesn't fit into the more usual back yard orientated stuff. However, quite a few have made it into the Leaning Centre and given the topics, have ended up in the Maintaining A Healthy Flock section.
I was rather pleased to see that four of my articles are now on the first page.

I had Penny, an ISA, go broody for 2 days. I would lift her out of the nest box, shut the coop door and she would tuk tuk tuk all day, not happy with me.I get home from work today and Ginger is having a meltdown. Screaming the egg song/escort call at the top of her lungs, standing out by some bushes. I look around and can't see anybody else. Hmm, that's odd. I go change out of my work clothes and head out to the backyard with some meal worms. Everybody comes running for the treats. While they eat I clean out their house, grab the solitary egg, and extract dear, recently departed monsieur mouse (another story for another time, perhaps) from the mousetrap and deposit him into the outside trash bin. Then I go sit on the grass to hang out with the girls for a while. Mary Ann and Ginger come over and flop down beside me. No sign of Mrs. Howell. Later both chickens head over to the bushes and have a collective meltdown. That's when I hear Mrs. Howell clucking an unfamiliar cluck, and I find her hidden in the bushes.

Can you even see her in there? Anyway, she's throwing leaves over her back like she's trying to make a nest. Oh boy, is this what I think it is? I thought these sex links didn't go broody.
As a reminder, Mrs. Howell is the one that has not laid a "good" egg for around a year. From her we just get weird surprises. Here's a photo of one of the surprises.

I have zero experience in these matters. There are obviously no eggs out under the bush. My plan is to see if she heads back into the coop tonight or tries to stay out. If she heads back, then I assume that means she's not earnest and I'll just wait to see if it passes. Am I even remotely correct about this?
Fantastic, Shad! You are so deserving!I've been looking though the articles I've written for BYC trying to decide whether to write any more. Way to go, Fat Bird.Fat Bird thinking about having a bit of a sit.
I'm very surprised at just how well she has managed to cope with her back problems. Yes she still staggers from time to time but she has enough control over her balance and legs to jump down from the chair onto the concrete floor.
The floor doesn't provide any grip as such and even the youngsters skid about on it if they don't take care. I watched Fat Bird hop down to the floor from the chair today and while it wasn't what one would call delicate, she kept upright and both legs together.
