Hugs Bob, words just don’t feel adequate at the moment. :hugs :hugs
Simple words like this are more than adequate.

I am not unique as all of us have lost dear hens and roosters. I have chosen to share my stories so that all who have suffered this pain know they are not alone.

Thanks so much for the hugs. :hugs :hugs

Oh dear - I don't know what to do.
I just went out to check on the Princesses and collect eggs and right out in the open is this little guy.

He is screaming his head off and as you can see Mom is coming by to feed him.

But he is right where every raccoon and fox will pick him off without even looking for him as he is sitting in the middle of predator highway.
Logic tells me this is just the natural world and it is what it is. But his chirping is so distressing.
I could pick him up and put him up on a tree branch - but raccoons and foxes are good climbers so I am not sure that does much good.
I am thinking if he makes it to nightfall (he might not because the foxes go by at dusk) then I pick him up and bring him into the garage for the night. I could always put him back out where his Mom can find him before dawn.
It is down to the 40s tonight but he looks well feathered - I am surprised he isn't trying to fly honestly.
Am I being pathetic? Should I just leave well alone?
Advice please people.
Rescue him!

A Sad Day

Today is a sad day at Fluffy Butt Acres. It is the anniversary of the passing of the greatest hen ever. She left us 3 years ago in 2018. It is amazing how much upheaval the tribe has undergone since then. Here is a quick synopsis.
  1. Daisy passes, tribe is Patsy and Lilly
  2. Hattie and Jabberwocky join us, tribe is now 4, Patsy, Lilly, Jabber, and Hattie
  3. Aurora and Maleficent join us, tribe is now 6, Patsy, Lilly, Jabber, Hattie, Aurora, and Maleficent.
  4. Jabber departs. tribe is now 5, Patsy, Lilly, Hattie, Aurora, and Maleficent.
  5. Patsy passes. tribe is now 4, Lilly, Hattie, Aurora, and Maleficent.
  6. Maleficent passes. tribe is now 3, Lilly, Hattie, and Aurora
  7. Sydney, Sansa, and Phyllis join us. Tribe is now 6, Lilly, Hattie, Aurora, Sansa, Sydney, and Phyllis.
All in three years. 😕

A quick moment to remember the greatest hen ever.

On her last day, Patsy stayed by her side until the end. I will always be grateful to Patsy for that and I did the same for her when it was her time.

Here is a short video of me holding Daisy as the end arrived. We sat together for a few hours and then she asked to be put down so she could spend her last moments with Patsy as seen in the photo directly above.

The skies today remind me so much of this day. Let's remember her for the jaunty lady she was.

I spoke with my local expert... and we are in agreement Daisy was actually a GOAT (greatest of all time) in hens clothing.

To Daisy, the greatest hen ever... I’m raising a double neat of Jane Walker (had to wait until it was an acceptable hour here on the westcoast) in memory of you.

To @BY Bob hugs and love to you and Mrs. Bob. Remembrance is the greatest honor we can confer, and Daisy is well remembered even by those that never had the pleasure is meeting her personally.

Such an an honor for her to receive the GOAT from you and yours. You are sweet to say so. And a double neat is a wonderful way to celebrate her memory. Thank you. :hugs
