I do think weather impacts them - I do notice different levels of energy and enthusiasm and even food preferences based on the weather.
I was chatting to a junior colleague last week whose family have kept OEGBs since long before he was born. He said the weather is the biggest single factor in chicken's attitudes.

Bob I'm really worried, have you ever had problems with Raccoons?

I have not had raccoons here. Real raccoons are quite dexterous and can work simple latches. It's why I use carabiners to lock the coop and run. Here raccoons will reach through chicken wire and kill chickens even if they can't eat them.

This article is not about raccoons though, it is about Raccoon DOGS. This is a kind of canine that is not native to England. I would not be too concerned as there is not a lot of them in England yet, it is just a concern. Your neighborhood dog is a more likely villain than this raccoon dog.

And I count myself lucky to have a relatively large chicken run for only four hens. Soon the whole backyard will be enclosed and then they'll have even more space to roam about.
What a great chickeneer you are to give your yard over to them. :thumbsup
