Good morning everyone, I'll go out and get a mugs pic later, right now I'm still waiting on that first cup of coffee to kick in. We survived the night with no sedation for Louis. Fireworks started about 10 last night and went on for almost 2 hours. The chickens only freaked once, when the first big one went off but were calm after that. Me and dad sat out with the boys the entire time talking to them, and in Dirt's case as long as I was scratching him he was ok. Louis was better this year, didn't try to break out, just paced his stall a little bit. Russ, he slept the entire time. Keeping Dirt calm this year was the key to Louis, they feed off each other and when Dirt would get worked up for a second, Louis got worked up. Went in about 12:30 when we thought it was all over and dad went to bed. Thankfully I stayed up just a bit watching tv. The jerk, who I thought was setting his off with the others waited until 1:30 am to start shooting. The first boom shook the house. I manage to get back outside in under 2 minutes to Dirt rearing and bucking in his stall and Louis charging at his gate. He shot off big fireworks for 45 minutes, with the ash raining down on our roof and the barn roof. This time around dad did have to get in the stall with Louis and put on the halter and lead rope and walk him in circles to help him. As long as dad was out with me even though he would jump Dirt stopped rearing. I spent that time going between Dirt and Russ petting on both as Russ began to get upset. When they were finally done stayed out another 15 minutes to make sure the horse were ok before we came back in to go to bed. But I do not think I finally fell asleep until almost 5 this morning listening for more to go off. Mom stayed inside this year with the dogs, neither one are gun shy, but fireworks are a whole different story. My 9 year old golden Gracie managed to squeeze all but her butt under mom's bed and our 2 year old lab x malamute mix CeCe spent the whole time pacing the house howling when one would go off. I'm just happy my now least favorite holiday is over and I should not have to deal with anymore fireworks until New Years.
Glad you guys survived the night without major incident. :hugsWell done. I'm really impressed with your animal management skills.
Aren't there specific times set out for when fireworks must finish? I mean, 1.30am the next day is no longer the 4th of July. That jerk neighbour was certainly living up to his name!
Just awful. You should make him come clean his ash up. I fear he could set you barn on fire some day. There are lots of dry combustibles around a barn.

I'm sorry you had to deal with that but glad everyone is fine.
Ditto

I heard that!! But now, I’m starting to think that a more local and practical destination would be easier, and less troublesome. (I’m the sibling) that started this mess, but remembered that my brother has a timeshare in Cabo San Lucas Mexico. All I really want and need, is to spend quality time with my family. It was my boneheaded Hawaiian idea anyways.
Cabo is wonderful. So is Hawaii. Neither is a bad choice to spend time together.

Question of the Day

Is Hattie starting to frizzle? Look at her feathers on the back towards her bum. I don't rremember that from before.
