Maggie is incorrigible. It is very hot and very humid but there she is again sunbathing in her down jacket.

Mine have been dusting in the shade today. Nothing new for princess she dips into wet mud , anything that's mucky she's in it.

I'm not trying point anything out in a bad way but Mrs BY Bob requires more heat/sun the older she gets. I hear that this can be common. Maybe Maggie is suffering the same condition, she just is never warm?

I am all caught up, you all had a busy night! and morning
One of the White leghorns, when she was small always would jump from the roost onto my back while I scooped under the roosts. She would stay there while I cleaned up each morning.
When I got the new Brown LH's, there is one the always tried to escape the brooder, would get up on the top of the feed & water jugs. When I took the out to the coop, she went further and would jump up on my head every time I went to the coop, I guess i was mamma hen lololol.
One day June 5th, I sat in the door way of the coop with the chicks. they all had a good time getting up on my knee, arm and yes, my head.

Last month when my son came over, he sat there while I kept Bob at bay so the grandkids could visit the chicks. Well the jumper didnt disappoint, she got up on my sons head, he has a LG flock so he didnt mind, lololo junt no pooping!

I had a similar thought. Remember a while back she was limping in the morning and by afternoon was fine? Just like arthritis.
So maybe she is warming her bones. I feel the same sometimes though admittedly not when the temperature is in the 90s!

There is so much happening here and so many chooks I have trouble keeping track!

Yep. My Ruby. Washed her butt this morning (though it didn’t really need it) so I could get a good look at her skin and spray vetercyn on it.

Phyllis Update

I took Phyllis off of the nest and got was she mad. She pecked me several times. From the amount of poo she dumped, she definitely had not left the nest.

Here she is just off the nest.

And then, more important than eating, the dust bath!

When I took her off the nest, Hattie was in box 2 to look at her egg. With Phyllis gone, Hattie was frantic to get in and lay her egg in the best nest box.

She was off the nest at least an hour. During that time Aurora went in the side door and tried to lay in her nest. Then Phyllis returned and I closed her back in.
