But I actually have an under-the-deck chicken run/pen, and it doesn't stink. 8 X 10 foot space with only 3 chickens might be why it doesn't stink, though. I was worried about it when I set it up, but I've been very pleasantly surprised at how well everything has worked. That's not say that I'm really going to try to stuff a cow in the basement, though! :lau

My birds like sitting on the wood pile during the winter...maybe I should add some roosts....oh, wait! We had to catch/chase birds across the snow to the coop last winter...think I'll wait until next spring to see how this year's batch does. (And my DH has made noise about expanding the deck)

That's where my cameras come into play. I can look and make certain everyone is safely roosted and the door has closed.
I think this and 2 built in fans are on the agenda too.
It's getting a little four-seasons feeling...I don't mean the weather either! Such spoiled girls! They probably expect rainfall shower heads and fresh robes and slippers each day.

@RoyalChick did you make the blue ladder from scratch, or purchase and paint? It would be a great ramp for the new coop and I'm likely to steal your idea.
It was an old, old, ladder that was left behind in the barn. Quite wobbly and rotting at the ends.
I added bits of an old closet pole as additional rungs in between the original ones because they were too far apart for the Princesses. And then once I settled on the color scheme for the Palace I decided to go all out and paint the ladder to match.

Here's mine.
Put your overalls on, the feece lined ones, and go and lock them in manually.
I could never fully trust an auto closer. For a start it would mean that at roost time I would not be certain if all the chickens had arrived homw safely and gone to roost.
I’ve fully agree. I would be terrified that something would go wrong and it would open in the middle of the night or something like that. With the amount of predators I have around here I just can’t risk that. And I LOVE my overalls!!

I’m sure they are fine, Alex! 😊
They are all fine, I just put my eagle back in the hanger, came home, and all the chooks were waiting for me. It’s nice to come home to family. Ps. I was teasing the ground crew aka maintenance man (he raises pheasants) I asked him, if he considers himself royalty? He looked puzzled and asked me why I asked that. I said, “because you seem to like raising peasants “ boy did I get a dirty look from that one! :D
