Well, I guess it's time to make a update I was praying I wouldn't have to make. Henrietta is gone. She had started hiding her eggs again about a week before I got sick with covid so I suspected she was trying to go broody again. A few days after I was when I was miserable and unable to make it outside my dad had mentioned to me he had not seen her and suspected she was setting again. Roughly a week after that was when Drummie was killed and I knew I had a problem. I was still holding out hope that she was alive just hidden somewhere and I was missing her coming off the nest as I did with momma hen this last time and she would show back up with chicks in tow. Drummie will be gone 3 weeks this Wednesday, which means if she was setting this past week she should have showed back up. She didn't, which can only mean she was the evil coyote's first victim and not Drumstick. So in total before I knew what the culprit was and still blaming hawks I lost 4 chickens to it. Henrietta, Drumstick, Clover and Pumpkin. After we killed that big male last Sunday have not saw any signs of anymore, but we are still watching and hunting. I have noticed a change in my flock again as they are once again relaxed and comfortable in the yard where the attacks were happening and back to spending most of their time there. It also makes Raven and Blueberry even more special to me. Raven is the only Henrietta daughter I have now and Blueberry is the granddaughter of both Henrietta and Toothless.
That’s very sad Rebecca, I’m so sorry. :hugs

BYbob, Royalchick, and MJ have all seen my boy, but I don't think anyone else on here has.

@featherhead007, this is Bootsie. He was the product of my Red bantam Cochin hen, and our standard (giant) buff Brahma rooster! He has longer legs than the bantam cochin rooster, (his uncle) but does not have the brawn and height of his dad.
He is a little taller than the Bantam Cochin rooster.

He's a lovely looking chap.:love

Here are the other 2 pictures of Butter. I'm seeing a big change in flock dynamics and Butter is smack dab in the middle of it. I always assumed that one day Henrietta would eventually be top hen. Butter has decided to make a bid for the top spot. I don't know if where when she was injured her confidence got boosted where we would not allow any bullying from the chickens. Or if she always had this in mind but she has started asserting herself. Everyone now defers to her, including the former top hen Momma and all it takes is a look from Butter. If the look does not do the trick she will deliver 1 quick stern peck to get her point across, but 90% of the time the look is all it takes. This has really came in handy during roosting times. Momma hen can cause roosting drama as it changes nightly who she wants to sleep beside her. If the wrong chicken is beside her she tries to throw everyone off the roost. Butter will have none of that and has actually thrown her off the roost a few times. When this has happened and momma got back up she is instantly subdued and does not cause anymore trouble. If she really has become top hen I think she will be a firm but fair and peaceful leader.

Go Butter! You lead those unruly chickens with a firm beak.
She really looks the part!
:love

You kids, be silent. I’m here napping with my hen Arizona. She laid the best egg today, and is eating up my stash of meally worms! (Any sleep for me these days is a blessing)
Change of plans. Arizona is outside with the others but I have my buddy Jaffar in with me. I’m sure he appreciates the A/C because it’s 100f out there at the moment. He’s a very good rooster

Vegetarian’s beware!!! Your food has armed itself and is ready to fight back!

(See how far away from the GMO debate I’m staying? A decade at WholeFoods has scarred me deeply with all the misinformation, propaganda, and militant Vegans and Vegetarians “saving animals and the planet”)

Shoot! *shoves soapbox back into a dark corner* maybe no one noticed? I’m going to have to lure my poor west-coast pansy chickens out into a polar vortex for tax purposes now? (it’s below freezing here!!! Not fair, I’m from Vancouver, it’s the “southern gulf islands” it’s NOT supposed to do this here! 😫 as all you dealing with actual blizzards, hoar frost, ice storms, and worrying about actual frostbite roll your eyes in exasperation 😉) note that means I’ll also have to go outside in sub zero Celsius weather! 😢🥺😵
I think you'll appreciate this just for the comedic value alone
