Speaking of the tri tip… anybody have suggestions on how to make it great? I’m having the few deputy sheriff friends over for dinner this evening, and while they “talk shop” I will be talking about bbqs steaks, and all about my chickens.

Marinate, marinate, marinate! Whatever flavor/seasoning you choose, start marinating it ASAP. Better flavor & texture then (esp. if marinate has some sort of acid...milk, vinegar, etc.)

Thank you for taking the time to watch them. I really hope you are right.
Last night she roosted with everyone else so I let her be until 5am when we had our little coconut and massage routine. I would say her crop was almost empty this morning - just some sludgy stuff right at the bottom which I pummeled around in case that helped to get it moving.
Again today she sort of relaxed during the massage. I can highly recommend this as a soothing morning routine to sit in the coop in the dark with a warm and sleepy chicken tucked under one arm while you knead at her crop. Honestly I am beginning to think this is as much for me as for her! Maybe I should do this for everyone in the flock in turn!
A couple of other quick updates yesterday she ate a lot - I kept her in the hospital to make sure she ate - beef and mash from commercial feed with cabbage. She likes the cabbage best and picks it out - but ate a couple of heaped table spoons of that mixture. This morning when I put her into the hospital bed she tucked in to breakfast immediately even though it is still dark. Today I am serving scrambled egg with beef cabbage and Kefir (for the probiotics).
I am really, really hoping she will come through this. I have to go on a business trip next week and I am not sure I can ask the lady who will care for my animals to do this routine so really hoping she is better by the weekend.
Finally, ages back @Shadrach had mentioned having a headlamp with a red light. I already used a headlamp so I just filed it away in memory banks. My old one is still working but is getting to the end of its natural life (already extended with a fair bit of tape) so I splashed out and got a new one with a red light option. It is a game changer! The ladies can still see I am there but they are way less disturbed by the red light.

The roasts are already pre marinated in the packaging I bought Thanks!

Oh, gosh, I hope it NEVER happens again. They bleed like a son of a gun - I thought there had been a massacre, my heart skipped a beat...then I realized what it was...no dead chickens, but a bloody man-fight gone wrong, lol!!! But, yes, if it happens again, I will certainly take a picture!

Next Hen in the Pool

I was outside with them putting fencing around Maleficent's flowers in an attempt to keep them from eating them all while improving the look of the yard. Something spooked Phyllis and she decided to fly the width of the pool, she was very close to making it but for reason dropped to fast and missed the landing. She was a good 5 feet up in the air. It could be that a gust of wind hit her just as she was landing. No matter why, she wound up in the pool.

She actually paddled pretty well and quickly reached the edge and tried to fly out. Sadly she could not make it.

So I scooped her up and took her inside to dry off.

I let her hang out inside to continue drying off for a while.

I'm not sure that the critter ladder is going to help much with the chickens unless they happen to fall in next to it. Phyllis was on the other side of pool. There was no way she would end up at the critter ladder alive.

Well, scary as that is, it seems like she got some extra 'Daddy time' out of it, and you got a few extra snuggles!!
She has a gorgeous mug - that first pic with you is priceless

Is the critter ladder near the filter, where Aurora got stuck once? Maybe having one diagonally opposite it in the pool, too. Or, maybe train them to use it? They are smart enough

that if they aren't in a complete panic at the time, they probably would use it if they were taught.

Sorry - can't be much help - I don't really even know if it is roasting cut or a grilling cut of meat.

I would have no idea. I suspect that is a good question for a Vet.

Getting a vet let alone speaking too one for a chicken here is like gold dust. I've tried so many times. They never once responded. I live to far out

This amateur vet here, has been trying everything for 14 solid hours, and that's just today

Alright, the chooks have been fed. A mixture of scrambled eggs and steak, with corn and a handful of meally worms mixed in. They truly do eat better than I do! (But I’m bbqing tri tip steak tonight ) and the birds are not getting any of it!

Don't eat outside and don't bring any birds in while you're eating or they'll get some of that too.
