I put them in an egg cup and chop the tops off with a knife. But you could take the peel off bit by bit under running water. Just crack it all over gently by rolling it under your palm before you get stuck in.

Go very, very gently.
In what circumstances would you ever want to peel a soft boiled egg?

Trip hazzard!

Having a few problems clearing up this young ladies eye. A couple of them have this slightly swollen eye surround. On one it was just a matter of giving the surround a good clean. I don't know how the encrusted stuff got on the lower eyelids and it was quite difficult to shift. This one is going to get eye drops tommorow.

I think I posted before about used teabags for eyes.
They are sterile as you poured boiling water in them ti make tea. The tea is mildly astringent and the tannin discourages bacteria. They are wet and you can squeeze them to be only damp so you can wash the crusts off. They are a convenient shape and size for the job.
And finally in England I imagine they are plentiful !

I was waiting for you to chime in, Shad. I distinctly remember you saying you don’t view chickens as a food source.

I used to feed lots of eggs back to the chickens, but stopped when I learned my flock was fat. Now they are rare treat, or emergency food for a sick bird. We do eat the eggs, but not tons of them. When my son is in town, he eats quite a few. During peak laying season, I tend to give lots away.
In the event that the majority of the hens start laying eggs again there will be over 100 eggs a week! I guess the person that runs the allotment scheme will take them. I give half a dozen scrambled eggs once a week to this lot.

Wonderful. I have been reading about Italian villages selling houses for $1 because they need people to move in.
Tempting?
It is very tempting but they want people under 40 to move in. Sadly I don't meet that requirement any longer.

For those wondering, this area is right outside my front stoop. Last week it was a muddy sludgy fall hazard so I spread maybe 4-5 coffee mugs worth of wood pellets (end of a bag) over it and smooshed it in. The girls promptly went digging of course and spread it more as it absorbed the muck.View attachment 2886299
New grass is already sprouting through.

Great visual! That reminds me! I forgot to post this the other day.
