A bit of research on poultry dust.
I Googled 'poultry dust' and looked at the top 9 products that Google puts at the top of the page (there were only 9). I also looked at Tractor Supply (TSC) and examined the products they had under poultry dust.
Of the 9 Google search products, 2 were also on the TSC list and TSC had one that wasn't in the 'Google 9' for a total of 10 unique products.
Here is what I found:
- In the 9 from Google: 6 were Permethrin 0.25%; 1 was DE; 1 was Aluminum Silicate; and one was 50% Rosemary, 25% mint with the rest made up of garlic, thyme and cloves (and no, it wasn't being promoted as a seasoning)
- At TSC one of the ones that was on the Google 9 list with Permethrin 0.25%, was described by TSC as Permethrin 25%, and the one that was not in the Google 9 was also Permethrin 0.25%
So, of the the total of 10 unique products, 70% were Permethrin 0.25% (though one was wrongly described) and the remaining 30% were each different.
From this you can conclude:
1) RC has lost her mind
2) There is absolutely no regulation in the US on what is described as Poultry Dust
3) There is a good chance of getting the right stuff (Permethrin 0.25%) if you just buy whatever is on offer, but it is probably a good idea to read the actual label

And for that little excursion I will pay Chicken Tax. Minnie growing her new tail.

X2 for the actual label - typos in the web ads, missing decimal points. Was shopping for rice hulls and chopped hemp, and one, I don't remember which, was a bale described as 3.3 lbs yet had a volume of a 33 lb bale, thus the conclusion of typos at work... will post a tax later

Those cross-rafters at human-head height are what they roost on, correct? You might think about making something so they are out of the drafts right at that level. Do drafts come in and go up by them through that human door? (next to the fire extinguisher, which is a great thing to have by the way). It doesn't get that cold where you are, but maybe it does get windy? That would increase the effect of cold.
Not too drafty in there. I spend a lot of time with my birds in there. Summer, it’s cooler inside, and in winter (seems warmer than my house, to me)

It's no good my hoovering here. I will check in tomorrow to see how Bob is. Hopefully they will be more news.

I can't even type good night :(
My chickens are no longer tolerating me hugging them. They want to go to bed. I might do the same and curl up with a cat or three.

I Have No Words. 😭

I think Legertha has passed. I can't be certain which of the littles it is from just the camera. She must have injured in an attack yesterday.

Why do these things happen when I'm not home? My gosh. I just can't right now. 😩
Oh this is just awful Bob. :hit I'm so sorry. No words can say. :hugs

Bob doesn’t deserve this. I really don’t know anyone who loves their babies more than he does. (I’m sure we all do, but we also know what Bob has been through, just to have those two littles) I personally am feeling much anxiety about the situation. (As if they were my own babies) :( :hit
Yes indeed this is a terrible blow. I wonder if Sylvie is catatonic and not dead from shock. Lilly being there would not necessarily get a reaction in that state. But I fear the worst.

While we wait for Bob to get home what we can do is keep his thread ticking over. None of us are in a position to help and as yet we don't know who is alive and who is not.
Matilda.
