I have considered it. I'm not certain it would go well at all with Sansa and her in the same crate. I'm going to talk it through with the vet but I have looked Sylvie over pretty good and I can see nothing wrong with her at all. I'm not certain what the vet could see without and xray or blood test. Why would she do those without a reason to do so?@BY Bob in case I get tied up later I wanted to send good wishes for Sansa’s vet visit tomorrow.
Have you thought about taking little Sylvie along for a quick ‘once over’ while you are there?
Sylvie is persistent for sure!Tonight's Full Roosting in Cluckle Hut
I recorded tonight's roosting. I was not present in the run as I left them to it. The following 12 minute recording will start with Phyllis on the roost as Phyllis enters and end with everyone one where they will be for tonight's sleep.
For me the saddest part was Sylvie looking out the side door to see where I was to help her.
I will not tell you how it ends. Speed forward if you don't want to see the entire event.
Yes, I understand. I certainly wasn't thinking in the same crate!I have considered it. I'm not certain it would go well at all with Sansa and her in the same crate. It's quite recent too! I was thinking it must've studied before we all had robust ethics checks. The whole oiling for winter thing has a lot of conflicting ‘evidence’ and no real studies.
Some experts swear by it and some say it makes it worse.
The only scientific study I found was a study done on conscripts in Finland. That found a statistically significant increase in frostbite where Vaseline and other equivalent thick greasy treatments were used.
The authors were not sure of the mechanism but have the hypothesis that by occluding the outer layer of skin, water is trapped in the next layer and is more likely to freeze.
Of course this is human skin which is probably different, and also in dry cold conditions not the moist cold that can happen in a poorly ventilated chicken coop.
I was amused by the design of the study - they treated half the face of each conscript and compared the two halves. Poor souls got frostbite on one cheek or ear!

Phyllis presented a very clear learning opportunity and Sylvie eventually understood what to do. A week or two of this and Phyllis won't have to peck her at all.Tonight's Full Roosting in Cluckle Hut

I just love Sylvie's dogged determination to roost on the high roost with Phyllis. The low roost is there but she did not take it.Phyllis presented a very clear learning opportunity and Sylvie eventually understood what to do. A week or two of this and Phyllis won't have to peck her at all.
I'm sure you weren't. This will be enough to manage with 2.Yes, I understand. I certainly wasn't thinking in the same crate!
