Unless you brought her in the house for a couple weeks like I did. I hate separating them, but felt I had no choice. I offered for her to go outside and she refused a few times before she was ready.

I have been wondering if I should get higher protein feed for my ladies at this time. They all seem to be at various stages of molting, and three of them look terrible! I feel bad for them. And of course we are having frosty mornings now and I can’t help but think they are uncomfortable.

I get the highest protein feed I can.

This is a really great idea! Do you do all sides, or three, or what?

In the past, I have done the windward sides. These are designed as wind and snow breaks. This year, with the addition of the Cluckle Hut helping, I will do the west and east sides. The west to stop the prevailing icy winter wind and the east in case we would have a nor'easter to keep the run from being buried in snow.

The south side faces the perimeter fence. This provides excellent ventilation and protection from any early snow from a Nor'easter.

Flexi was losing feathers as was my other two girls. I've used quite layers very and made into a warm dinner with veggies and tuna and they are thriving again

It is hard to treat heavy metals - you need to chelate them - CaEDTA is the thing usually used. I have it in oral form (who knew, it is available as a human supplement?!). To really work well it needs to be given by injection and it is poorly absorbed orally so it is not ideal. If we do end up concluding that is the issue I will ask the vet to get me an injectable form. It just seems very late for her to get zinc poisoning unless she found a whole new set of screws to swallow which I think is really unlikely.
