What better day to lay your first egg then Christmas. Blueberry or Raven, and I highly suspect Blueberry laid their first egg before I got up this morning. I knew it was coming soon as in the past 3 days she started squatting and accepting advances from Basil. Raven wont be far behind as while she is not squatting she is also starting to allow the roo's to breed her. It only took 3 months of calling her a freeloader to get her butt in gear. Even more exciting news is Poppy is starting to show some interest in the nest area's. She spent 2 hours just sitting in the porch nest box yesterday.

I love how she pecks in her footprints!

She just loved snow. She would run out of the house into the snow while the other refused to come out. Her feet would turn red after a while while she was out playing in the snow.

A Chicken Christmas

I gave the tribe full access to the outside today as a Christmas treat. Full access to free range all day. Aurora led 3 others over to the deck where they knocked at the back door and were rewarded with meal worms.

Phyllis and Hattie would not leave the complex without me and I was glad of that.

Aside from that one trip to the deck they really did not leave the complex today. A few trips to the grass next to the coop but mostly safely under cover all day.

It was a great way for me to safely learn about how they would manage with a full day of free access to the outside.

It was great, spent it with family. Best Christmas gift will be here in about a week. Mom knew I wanted a brooder plate to replace the heat lamps I used this year. Could not find one but me and my sister found the one I wanted on amazon. So in about a week I'll have my Brinsea ecoglow brooder plate.

Was Lilly not festive today...or did the wind blow her hat off?

I certainly hope it wasn't that left a lump of in her ??

My girls got a Christmas treat....some of these (window boxes with soil/fodder), plus some ornamental kale to snack on.
