Happy Friday, folks. I think I caught up. I miss my chickens!!! The last two days I did not get to see them one minute outside of locking and unlocking the coop. This is the fourth day this week I had go in too early to drive my daughter to school. Bridge was on the high roost last night, which made me smile. Another observation: red head lamps really are less disruptive to them at night than white ones. They also give me sweet vocal greetings when I lock up and unlock in the dark.
Well, made it to Friday and can’t wait to spend time with them this weekend! Spent lots of time with them last weekend and it was glorious. ❤️

Sorry if this is a repeat:

Good news on all fronts, even Minnie, who must be satisfying something, roosting over there. Here's to your continuing recovery, being so sick is tough. There is flu going around too. Did you get a covid test to rule that out?
Thank you. I did a home test for Covid just in case (negative) but I think it is a side effect of the month of antibiotics I was on for Lyme. Really nasty gastritis with a lot of pain and vomiting every hour or so.
Not something I am prone to so a bit scary as well as miserable.
I am turning the corner as I managed to keep down a third of a plain boiled potato since last night though the cramps continue.
I am maintaining electrolyte and hopefully fluid balance by sipping the Gatorade that I originally got for Minnie!

Ended up with almost 6 inches overnight, better then the predicted 8 to 10 inches but still, 6 inches too many for both me and my flock. Because they are spoiled, I had to go out this morning and shovel them a path from the coop which they were refusing to leave to the horse stalls. I did not shovel them a path to the front porch where the nest boxes are that everyone fights over. They have access to 5 different boxes if they really want to use the porch box they can brave the snow. I have one pullet who was brave enough to explore off the shoveled path. That would be Poppy, I was not shoveling fast enough and she was following me. She decided half way there that she could get to where she wanted faster and hopped through the snow to Louis stall. I had to take a break shoveling to catch her and dust the snow off her body. I should have had my camera out as she ended up looking like a white silkie with a black head.

Just peeked outside as I can hear the girls who will need to lay their eggs soon starting to complain. The loudest complainer is Raven and she's standing in the pathway I shoveled contemplating braving the snow to make it to the porch. Poppy is in her happy spot and growling at any hen that walks near her, her little nest is hers and hers alone. So far the bigger hens are respecting that. I think after I drink this cup of coffee I will bundle back up and brave the 15 degree temps and shovel a path to the porch. But only because in the last 2 days Butter also started using the porch boxes and when I peaked out she gave me a look that could kill. We all know Butter is the queen and gets what she wants.
