I know this. I'm doing better this morning. I am also pretty certain that a day more or less would not have changed the outcome.

Now I just need to concentrate on my job somehow for 6 hours........
Work is a four letter word some times.... But is does help to make the time go by.

While all that may be true, remember the following:

4) If you weighed her regularly, it probably wouldn't have 'spiked', it would have been a gentle but consistent increase & you might not have thought too much about it other than to reduce 'snacks'

You really have done & continue to do a wonderful job with the chickens...and I am quite sure that if Lilly could talk she would whole heartedly agree.

I anxiously await the vet's findings this afternoon. My thoughts and prayers are with you.:hugs:hugs
Yes, very true! I think back to DH’s recent hospital spell and fluid retention issues in his abdomen. We all thought he was just getting a little more pudgy. Age, diet, and the beer belly were just catching up faster. It wasn’t horribly obvious until he had some sudden bloating (chalked that up to GI troubles and our water quality issues here) and sharp pains. He literally came home after the diuretics and treatment in the hospital 40lbs lighter and skinny looking! So these things are gradual and well hidden even in weak creatures like people, never mind chickens, which can often be tough as nails.

Here’s a lucky sunset (from last night) to honor the brave hen Lilly.

We love you… but we also know you’re planning on slowly taking over the entire world. Sure… all those Aussies on the west coast here, working at the ski resorts were just on “working vacations”. Not secretly infiltrating our society and convincing us to go “visit” Australia. All my friends who have visited this strange land have come back somewhat “changed”, some
Come back with girlfriends or Australian husbands… some never come back at all! It’s a conspiracy, and if the drop bears don’t get you while you’re there you slowly become an Australian yourself. 😉
True story: my cousin's daughter worked on a sail boat they were Sailing there from California, she landed in Australia found a guy and now 4 kids later she has goats and chickens 😁 and thinking of a Pony for the kids...

Putting in a sad emoji because you are being way too hard on yourself in this comment. She was acting fine, and I think you are very observant. It is even possible she was not hiding much discomfort as ascites can be carried just like general weight gain until the pressure impinges on something else. If you had discovered the weight gain earlier by the scale, I don't think an earlier trip to the vets would change what the vet will find or not find today.

Well said and I agree.
