I finally managed to get a fluffy butt picture of Corona. She did not want to cooperate this morning and insisted her rear was off limits.

They are actually the other name for a Golden Comet. They did not have one in the catalogue, but another breed I will try to talk her out of will be Isa Browns. I know all 3 of those will make pretty friendly hens. In my head though all I can picture is a ticking time bomb of reproductive issues.

Yes. They are all versions of red sex-linked hybrids and they are all bred for production.
Both Elizabeth and Diana were ISA Brown hens (I didn’t choose them and didn’t know any better in any case). Elizabeth already died after a long series of soft shelled eggs and Diana is starting down that path now. It is heartbreaking.
Diana is almost three and the vet says for an ISA Brown that is already considered elderly.
It makes me so mad. And sad.

The goal is Buff Orpington pullets. If they do not have any available I have a short list of other breeds. When my Cackle Hatchery catalogue arrived mom looked through it and marked several breeds that she liked. The short list is: Black Australorps, Rhode Island Red, Cinnamon Queens or Golden Comets *I'm not happy with that choice*, Black Laced Red or Golden Wyandottes, and Golden Laced or Buff Cochins.

My personal choice/order: Buff Orpington if they have, then Astralorp (sweet like the buff orps!). Then either of the Cochins, since you already have some. then RIR, then the other two - both production breeds. But, I'm not your mother .

I would really consider either of the first two, as, if I remember correctly, you have 1 buff orpington now, correct? That would give her a similar temperament 'friend' that all in the family will enjoy. My experiences with the RIR are that they can be bullies to others. I know not everyone has had this experience...so it may depend on the line of stock they are from...but I won't get them again. (They are just fine with me, though!)

Maggie is a RIR. She is loud and opinionated and I guess she is a bit aggressive to the Roadrunners, but nothing too serious.

Buff Orpingtons is the goal. Yes we already have 1, Butter. She is my mom's personal favorite hen and is using this as hopefully a excuse to get another one. My moms 2nd choice is the red followed by golden laced wyandottes. She threw the Rhode Island Reds and golden comets in the mix because that is what her grandmother had when she was growing up and she has fond memories of those hens. The Australorps were thrown in because as she put it, we can't go wrong with another black brown egg laying chicken.

Ivy too! Last night she frightened herself. She was committed to launching from the arm of the Adirondack chair and couldn't change her trajectory when Peggy, having been pecked by Janet, ran into Ivy's path!

Ivy landed pretty much on top of Peggy and was mortified.

What was Peggy's response?

Ten days ago I replied to a post from Nov 14, 2020, on page 2293.

This means that on average, I have been reading about 4.5 days worth of posts per day, or 49 pages per day. I am well on my path to finish in 5.5 months... I suppose faster with this rate...
