I've seen this awful vision and my girl is laying the membrane with egg, nothing like this lash egg. I may get her inside tomorrow so I can observe this better I the morning. She is not losing weight and looks healthy for now. It's just she wants to be alone in the morning for a while, her back end improved today.I apologize in advance for what you will see. They are quite disgusting, and your chickens will also eat them if given the opportunity…
I think my key point is, if you’re in a multiple soft shelled egg situation with her, she is struggling to lay them to the extent that you’re already lubing her vent with oil… now isn’t really a time to be too picky about “clean” dietary/supplement choices. Get some more calcium into her however you can for the short term, while sourcing something better for her. I’ve seen a lot of struggling with softies and reproductive problems in my rescues, and my goal in taking on these high maintenance, abused by their genetics and our need for the cheapest possible food production birds is always to keep them as comfortable as possible and give them the best “retirement” I can.
Dealing with rescues and battery hens is so emotionally taxing. I really feel for you, but to be probably a little too blunt, as an ex-bat she might not even have enough time left to her to really worry about some of those other additives and sweeteners. Plus it’s a short term fix to an immediate problem, not a full time feed. My other short term fix for a hen that is in too much pain from reproductive issues is permanent relief. That’s probably the hardest fix there is, but sometimes it’s the kindest thing I can offer, and a responsibility that I don’t take lightly at all in caring for any animal… from the food producing animals, to the chickens, and my pets.
I've managed to get a good amount of dog food and really bulked up on chicken feed and bedding. I must get a load of cat food now incase we have shortages due too this situation flaring up here.Payday Saturday is Tractor Supply day. 2 weeks of dog food and about 3 weeks of chicken feed.It never fails that one or 2 people ask just how many dogs and chickens we have. They are actually litter mates. The mom is a black pug that we rescued. She was pregnant at the time but we didn't know, Jack is calm and super sweet, Amidala is super sweet and anything but calm. Amidala likes to wrestle with our bull dog. She is fast and super strong. ❤Love that staffy and his cheeky laughing partner.![]()
She is lovely.I’ve been mentioning Tiny quite a bit with the soft shelled egg issues people are having here lately, so I thought I would post a couple current pics of her. She is a 3 year old Isbar, and has never laid “right” her eggs should be green, but they have been shell-less, very thinly shelled buff, or when I was trying to help her with even more calcium supplements pink. I had some big issues with temperature, humidity, and had a very rough first hatch in getting into chickens of 28 Isbar Eggs I hatched out three successfully.Tiny was an assisted hatch, and a runt. I didn’t think she would survive, especially when she finally started laying and then had so many issues with the soft shelled eggs. I love her floppy little hat comb!View attachment 3014681View attachment 3014682

Song birds are back in force. There is lots of pleasant singing in the yard.
Does this mean the hawk has moved on? There has been no sign of it for weeks. Could we be that lucky?
Continuing on with the news......
Our latest story concerns the Iron Beak. Imagine how excited I was when I caught her pooping this out. Hers is in the circle. I don't know whose the other was.

Based upon that, i ready to pronounce her cured. I do want to weigh her to see if she is back down to normal for her.
In sports today, we have video of everyone enjoying a nutritious snack of eggs and rice, except Betty. Watch her sprint over when I call her.
They look quite happy Marie.
