I don't know what lash egg is. I will try to look this up . Thank you very much for your support :)
I apologize in advance for what you will see. They are quite disgusting, and your chickens will also eat them if given the opportunity…:sick

I think my key point is, if you’re in a multiple soft shelled egg situation with her, she is struggling to lay them to the extent that you’re already lubing her vent with oil… now isn’t really a time to be too picky about ā€œcleanā€ dietary/supplement choices. Get some more calcium into her however you can for the short term, while sourcing something better for her. I’ve seen a lot of struggling with softies and reproductive problems in my rescues, and my goal in taking on these high maintenance, abused by their genetics and our need for the cheapest possible food production birds is always to keep them as comfortable as possible and give them the best ā€œretirementā€ I can.

Dealing with rescues and battery hens is so emotionally taxing. I really feel for you, but to be probably a little too blunt, as an ex-bat she might not even have enough time left to her to really worry about some of those other additives and sweeteners. Plus it’s a short term fix to an immediate problem, not a full time feed. My other short term fix for a hen that is in too much pain from reproductive issues is permanent relief. That’s probably the hardest fix there is, but sometimes it’s the kindest thing I can offer, and a responsibility that I don’t take lightly at all in caring for any animal… from the food producing animals, to the chickens, and my pets.

@Marie2020 this is exactly why I won't do rescues again. This is why they were put up for rescue. The big breeders all know what happens. This is why the 1st thing Shad did was warn everyone his wouldn't be a thread of happy endings. This is the reality of taking on rescues. I know you will do your very best for her but I think you already know the outcome probably won't be good. :hugs

I have given Enrofloxacin (Baytril) for Lash eggs/sapinglitis and for the foot issues with Roostie I treated with an Amoxicillin Tylosin powder with dosing help from here… you might be able to use a human amoxicillin, I was trying to get some of that while waiting on the pet supplies I had ordered (and figuring they might not make it across the border) luckily my package arrived, shortly after a vet was found that would see a Rooster, and he did a very intensive course of straight amoxicillin from the vet then I gave him an additional course of the AmoxyTyl which was what really seemed to kick that infection out of his poor foot.

Have you seen any other strange ā€œeggsā€ like a lash egg that could indicate another reproductive issue? Or as an ex Battery hen she might just be so calcium depleted that she can’t shell her eggs properly. It’s good that she has you to help her. Another thing you could try if you can’t get the supplements take eggshells, bake them to kill anything potentially harmful and very finely powder them, in a coffee grinder or with a mortar and pestle… like down to a super fine dust, then cook that into some eggs and feed this to her. It’s not perfect, but anything that helps…

I'm making sure she will live as happily and as comfortable for as long as she can last. I know I must know when her time is over and find a way to end her in the easiest way possible I wish I knew this way but will investigate :( :hit

I hope she makes a recovery. I know we all get super attached to our babies.
