I had to break up a fight earlier. Our red cochin rooster, Stupid, challenged our dominant rooster again. One day I won't be out there to save his dumb butt.

Honestly they usually don’t end up doing much damage to themselves or each other, aside from their pride and little rooster egos… I almost caught two of the jerk boys squaring off, they had the hackles thing going, I was like “oh this will be a good example of how things actually go naturally” but I walked within ten feet of them, so they broke it up and that was that… I didn’t even have to step between the idiots! So long as there’s somewhere to run off and hide even “Stupid” being Stupid probably won’t be too bad. But it’s good he has a human to keep him from being too dumb! these guys have learned “ayyyy, don’t make me come out there!” And many other useful phrases!

In many ways it often Sucks to be Canadian… still cheaper than our island gas, just a few more days to find out what our new price will be, the excitement is killing me!

It made me very conscious of the vulnerability of my face/eyes as Pangoo was hanging out nearby also, not that I am afraid of him, but it did make me aware that they can move fast. I wouldn't want him to attack me in the face....

You most certainly don’t want that… luckily when they do it’s usually beak attacks from what I’ve experienced, not flogging when going for an adult’s face. There’s a reason Sammy doesn’t have any living brothers. They were very tasty.

Pancho had the bluff until Red outgrew him.The young guys will spar but when Red is involved and the other rooster doesn't run I break it up. Stupid has been blooded by Red but he comes back for more. Hence his name...

I can sympathize, in less than a year a tank of gas for my F150 has increased by $30 and it jumped 0.30 a gallon after I filled up Friday morning

I agree in most cases. The only reason I intervened is because our dominant rooster has almost killed other roosters. Lety came in carrying our bantam Pancho covered in blood. Pancho had the bluff until Red outgrew him.The young guys will spar but when Red is involved and the other rooster doesn't run I break it up. Stupid has been blooded by Red but he comes back for more. Hence his name...

Every situation is different… even with boys isn’t it? I Always broke up Sammy and Roostie, usually before anything even started. Sammy had the main flock and Rosstie’s tribe was
Still separate for breeding purposes. They never got along and I think it was Partially because Sammy prefers white Hens, and when Roostie initially came into my care he had some CX girls in with him, and Sammy didn’t have any girls that were the same colour as him. They never settled that and I always kept them as separate as possible. Sometimes Sammy would see Roostie and take a Run at him from over 100’ away. They were always easy to separate though.

You know your chickens and what to watch for, I think that’s the most important part of caring for them. I knew these two boys weren’t serious at all, but if one of the little idjets ever manages to get into Hawks run that would be cause to run outside in my slippers… and I swear some days they are actively trying to get in. Some Roosters are just like that.

It's true that it's good to know your tribes. The older roosters here know who is who but the younger guys are jockeying for position.
