With the return of Chaco, I’m sure that I will be getting a new list of feeding instructions as well.

Horses are a lot of fun, but holy moly they can be trouble! Lots of good grass hay and fresh water is my say. Limit grain, and give a good big salt block.

Strange Roosting

We had a strange roosting set up tonight. Here they are at dusk this evening.

I am firmly convinced that Lilly knows when bad weather is coming. When bad weather does come, the corner of the coop where the high roost is is where the brunt of the storm will expend itself. On those nights Lilly always roosts in Daisy's, the greatest hen ever, roost spot. That spot is as far from the weather as you can get.

I was not surprised when I watched roosting tonight to see Lilly there. What surprised me was Betty, coming in the coop, hopping onto the main roost, and then hopping up next to Aurora on the high roost like it was no big deal. I watched in surprise waiting for Aurora to throw her off. Instead there was no pecking only a little grooming and then settling down for the night. Betty took advantage of Lilly being gone to use the high roost.

Almost 6 hours later this is what the coop looked like.

I don't think Betty liked the wind howling on the high roost so she got down, although it is possible Aurora forced her down. Hattie likely had a snack and wound up in the nest box.

All very interesting.

The wind is topping 35 mph tonight.
