Herding ducks are only slightly easier than herding chickens but still a challenge for a single person. Thankfully Lety and I team up and can guide them easier. I don't even try to herd the chickens, too much aggravation. Lol
Get a long pole, and teach them with that. It works fairly well.....just tap the ground to the side you want them to turn from......... or keep it up if they are going well where you want them to go. Start with the pole at a great distance until they get used to it....then you can gradually move the tapping pole (or just held low horizontally) closer to them...after a bit, it becomes pretty fine tuned. Just don't crowd them from the back....stay just at about the edge of their personal space...to make them move forward...but don't actually 'intrude' on their personal space.. this moves them forward, but at a slow duckie waddle, not a hurried one.

It helps to start with short distances, and to have 'hidden' some treats where you 'herd'

them to for the first few weeks...soon they will be herding reasonably well!

She is re-re-molting. My Princesses don't pay much attention to the right time to do anything! And no, she isn't a fan on help with the casings though my fingers are itching to do so!

What do you mean 'the right time'. I'm doing it now, so NOW is the right time!

Oh, and keep those itchy fingers away from me!

Honestly, the quality of servants you get these days!!!:lau:lau:lau:lau

I know. It is shocking. I live in constant expectation of being replaced by someone better. And rather hurtfully I think they have found my replacement in the form of the Tradie that built the Chicken Palace. They just adore him. He brings them treats and he plays them music. If they hear his truck they will leave me and rush to say hello to him.

That would require a lot, I mean a LOT, of cake.
Before I had chickens to enjoy my apple cores I used to eat them myself.
I used to as a young kid and it drove my mom nuts. It got so she would only give me apples that were already cored. Would eat everything but the stem!

The powdering of them helps to release the cyanide (well amygdalin), as I believe that our stomach acid isn't strong enough to effectively break down the seed coat on apples....

Awwww, that is actually kind of sweet....People that don't have chickens could never imagine that they would develop such a bond with a 'passing worker' so to speak. Your 'tradie' must be a nice guy!

Yes, it is kind of humbling when they do that to you, though.:hit:hugs:hugs:hugs
