They have not divulged their names to me yet.
Right now their main skill is in convincing me that I have killed them. I relaxed a bit this morning when I saw they were pretty lively.
This may be literally the only time in my life when I know something that others don't about a chicken breed!
In theory I know what they are and even which is which so all guesses welcome. I will be happy to supply pictures of any part of each Princesse-in-waiting and from any angle. I already need to upgrade my data plan to accommodate the number of photos I took of them and I haven't even had them 24 hours yet. They were hatched on Monday and I went to collect them yesterday.
I love guessing games!
I am very behind, wish I could keep up, but saw through notifications you got chicks, I was so excited! Must have missed any talk beforehand about it though in catching up to here, seems out of the blue. Congratulations to you, Faithful Palace Servant!
No ideas about breed, but the upright posture of the black one that drank and drank in your thirsty Thursday video was striking. Must say that Hazel here is definitely female but seems to naturally stand much like a rooster, she forms a perfect L. Wondered if that's a function of her role as Sentinel, or just the way she stands.

It is hard,as so many breeds have 'chipmunk chicks'...with only subtle differences. That, coupled with the differences within the breeds (i.e. chicks of the same breed vary some in teh striping, darkness, etc.) that it is really hard to tell for sure. Best we can do, I think, is eliminate some as 'not possible'. Would be nice if she gave us a hint or two!!! (hint, hint)
True. LOTS of chipmunk chicks!

Hmmm. I will need to think of some hints.

TY! DCs are a very independent breed, and quite irridescent on the black (mostly boys...the girls have varying amounts of black (irridescent) and brown) I think they are second in my heart only to BRs. But, then, each breed and each chicken seems to win you over, so at times it can be hard to say who or what is my favorite!!!

In the pic below, top center & right are 3 dark cornish girls. Top Center has least black, just below her has the most black/irridescence. Thicker black outlining ? (not sure just what their patterning is called)

Pattern is pencilled, same as partridge. It's those chevrons. Oddly, Cheetah is "pencilled" too, but it looks more like square rosettes like a leopard or cheetah. I don't get some the way markings are labeled .

Those are adorable
Awww. Thank you. I will let them know you said so.
They are all grown up now and think pretty highly of themselves!

Ok, not the best pic (I mostly have video) but here are Sunshine, Flash and Flo as chicks on my son’s lap. Flash is in the middle. I believe females have darker chipmunk stripes than males, so perhaps we do have a little boy of some kind?
Hmmm, now this picture makes me think I am incorrect. Flash has much more well defined striping, particularly on the head. And, since I haven't gotten far enough on the past material to use her words against her, I can't even use her 'lustings' against her for guessing. Best I've gotten is 'I want 1 one everything I've seen except production breeds 'cause they are all so adorable (?except maybe naked necks? can't remember on that one)...but absolutely has a weakness for any animal that is black.

@RoyalChick we have black squirrels here...want some of those???:lau:lau

I call that the 'daily stampede' horses won't go far without each other, and if they find others they stop for a 'chat' :) I see a couple white cattle in the tall brush near the bottom of your photo :)

This morning my gals were full of 'pee and vinegar' hahaha my 22 yr old and the 20 yr old were bucking and rearing and running while I was trying to put hay out and not get mowed down by 'nutty ponies'. My Arabian and Thoroughbred left back in the barn were trying to tear the doors down to get and see what the commotion was! It is very cold and we have snow squalls so I know its the weather making them saucy. Lot of yelling on my end as the feet were flying around my head! Bet my Arab and T-bred are not so happy now to be out !!:celebrate
Your eyes are playing tricks on you. Zero cattle. The brush is my rose patch with tumbleweeds blown into it. Need to clean it out for the roses, but they won't really get started for another month and the tumbleweeds protect them from the depredations of the deer.
