They need to learn to love you. Sylvie and Legertha were the same with me. And we were very close at the end.

Oh, Bob..this photo made me laugh and cry at the same time.

The mop tops look so content, happy, and as adorable as all get-out on your shoulder. :love

These are for you..for being able to enjoy their love and quirkiness for far too short of a time.:hugs:hugs:hugs:hugs

Mine just run away from me screaming blue murder. Except for Birdie who pecks.
I appear not to be liked very much in the chicken world.
:(
RC, if you met me, I’m sure that you would be a snuggling me right along with those little ones. I’m a nice guy. (The general populous hates nice people) because we are a threat to their narcissism! :old

Hmmm, if I recall, Dottie pecks...but certainly comes for treats....so it isn't as though she doesn't like you. She makes me think of Violet Crawley on Downton Abby. She wants you to think she is aloof and crotchety...but every once and a while she shows a softer heart!❤️❤️(but always while trying to disguise her 'weakness'!)

You can act like a mother hen and give her a gentle corrective 'peck' (or gently push her beak away, or something similar) to alert her that that isn't okay.....but if you are to do that, do it now before it is too late!

I bet @Shadrach would have a technique on how to do this. I have seen mother hens peck their chicks when they were being a bit 'aggressive', but not sure at what age that started. And, mother hens can talk to their chicks to alert them to okay or not okay behaviors. An unhappy squawk, a content purr, a tidbitting sound, etc. Whatever it is, it shouldn't actually hurt them...and the 'message' should be consistent EVERY time they peck, so they learn it/associate it appropriately.

Maybe a gentle push of beak away and an unhappy squawk sound paired???
I think she is just exploring She is curious about everything and pecks it. Much more so than the others. I don’t sense it is aggressive.

I am actually fine with my relationship with Dotty.
She likes to sit next to me and chat. I don’t do much in the way of treats but I do sit in their yard and Dotty, like Maggie, will choose to settle down by my side. But she is also competitive with me and pecks my ankles and flashes her hackles at me.

So, she thinks you are a wonderful peer to spend time with...but that she also needs to 'defend' her 'turf' at times from you, so to speak?

Sorry, I probably took the previous post a little to seriously!:

Coco pecks my ankles, but it’s only because she stands under my chair and knows treats are coming quickly. (Without competition)

Yes. I think she is telling me I am a friend but I must remember that I am below her in the pecking order (I knew that anyway!). She treats her sister Minnie the same way.
