Oh no. How sad. I haven't dared check mine yet. I am waiting for it to be above freezing.Major Damage
I don't know if these will even open all the way. The outer layers are for certain dead.

Caught the little bugger from the bookshelf last night. I've had a live metal trap (with peanut butter in it) set there for over a month. Nothing. 1 week and caught it. Reset the trap in the storage room hoping to lure out the ones between the ceiling (and the floor above). Whole process is much easier than the metal box: move the boards, unhook the wire, grab the handle, take out and dump. This should be fun! I can't wait to see how many you catch!
Excellent. I'm so glad it worked. I'm also glad you have recycled your catch into eggs.Caught the little bugger from the bookshelf last night. Morning dawn temp 19F. Went out with the bucket when it reached 30 to let the tribe out, feed, etc. Took nothing but the bucket. let them all out (except the babies), and let the mouse catch their hungry attention, then let the mouse go. It ran, they chased, it started looking like Grand Theft Auto video games with the cops after the mouse, who managed to hide under a box....i moved it and the chase was on again. I think Blanche got it which was a first for her. Here's to hoping for more mouse steaks for them. If they get enough this way, maybe they'll learn to catch them before the little devils get into the house.
It hard to believe this was reply to 1 week ago: exactly 100 pages ago...
“Chatty”? Sometimes people just need to get things off their chest! (Did you hear that Coco?, get off my chest!)Excellent. I'm so glad it worked. I'm also glad you have recycled your catch into eggs.
100 pages in a week is frightening. We sure are chatty.
Wonderful, hello Bernadette!A formal introduction: Bernadette (aka Birdie)
Birdie is a brave little soul. She was the first to come out from under the heat cave, the first to explore the top of the heat plate, and the first to do acrobatics on the branches. She is a pecker constantly looking out for things to peck at. She has pecked both her sisters and when I put my hand in she pecks my fingers while everyone else shrieks and runs away.
Bernadette means 'brave as a bear' and I think she is as brave as a bear. Maybe even braver than a bear pound forpoundounce.
Birdie is a Welbar. Congratulations - both @rural mouse and @micstrachan win this with their Welsummer guess. Welbars are recognized as a separate breed to Welsummers in Britain, but not in the US. I think they are basically the same, but with Welbars you can tell gender at hatch. I think they are very pretty.
Here she is doing what she does.
