Caught the little bugger from the bookshelf last night. I've had a live metal trap (with peanut butter in it) set there for over a month. Nothing. 1 week and caught it. Reset the trap in the storage room hoping to lure out the ones between the ceiling (and the floor above). Whole process is much easier than the metal box: move the boards, unhook the wire, grab the handle, take out and dump.

Morning dawn temp 19F. Went out with the bucket when it reached 30 to let the tribe out, feed, etc. Took nothing but the bucket. let them all out (except the babies), and let the mouse catch their hungry attention, then let the mouse go. It ran, they chased, it started looking like Grand Theft Auto video games with the cops after the mouse, who managed to hide under a box....i moved it and the chase was on again. I think Blanche got it which was a first for her. Here's to hoping for more mouse steaks for them. If they get enough this way, maybe they'll learn to catch them before the little devils get into the house.

Congratulations!!! We had a lot of activity last night in walls/cupboards etc, but again empty traps. At least the stove mouse didn’t poop all over the clean dishes last night.

Hector is sprouting feathers everywhere but the same places as the girls. They all have at least loose down at base of neck and have of spine and a row (or more) of feathers framing their breasts. Hector, on the other hand, has only just popped shoulder feathers (single row) and tail feathers, no back or breast feathers, no fill in feathers across the wings (aside from "flight" feathers), but HAS popped feathers below the wings on his thighs. Anyone with experience with slow feathering, is this a typical pattern for slow feather or an unusual feather growth pattern connecting to cockerels or something else entirely?

I hear lots of activity in the ceiling/floor at night, so now that the bucket trap has been tested, going to aim for those. The metal box traps have caught a VERY few in there over the same time as the box trap by the bookshelf where I'd seen a mouse, so I'm postulating that it will catch lots more, quickly. Have to remember to go check it daily, but as it's easier to check too, shouldn't be a problem.

Lovely photo. Is he king of all he surveys? :)

Hope you are feeling better today, Alex!:hugsIt can be extremely difficult when everything is out of our hands, please know that I am a wise a**,but in a lot of ways it is my defense mechanism...and I truly am hoping for the best for the situation....and hope Jaffar provided some comfort and distraction last night!:hugs:hugs:hugs
