The little green guy from Geico’s commercial might be a gecko, but to me he’s a newt! (I don’t use their useless insurance coverage.) the newt overcharged me!

I love Geico… well at least their ads… such a cute little gecko. Here, we have the choice of ICBC or ICBC, and you can’t drive without insurance. It’s also a huge PITA to import vehicles to our province. The nice thing about ICBC is they overcharge everyone, all the time. It gives us all a common point to complain and bond over.

Congratulations!!! We had a lot of activity last night in walls/cupboards etc, but again empty traps. At least the stove mouse didn’t poop all over the clean dishes last night.

Update: the poop was hidden between the upside down mugs where I couldn’t see it. And the little bugger got into my little potted plant and seems to have been pulling out the top mulch. I stopped halfway through the dishes last night and unloaded the truck with DH about 11 pm. Due to our water constraints and heating it on the stove I’m really stingy and will use the rinse water from one dish to fill the next thing to wash… dishes are a huge chore. So, I had a big mason jar of half filled with water when DH finally got home (near midnight) and we unloaded the truck. I may have empty traps but the stove mouse met it’s end by my least favourite means, and as always unintentionally, drowned in the jar of water. I will have happy ravens

Had a bit of a scare. Went out to the coop to remove some of the insulating cardboard (up to 54F from the 19 at dawn this morning). Jess and Twirp both come in. Twirp starts squawking, ostensibly about eggs, but she laid hers this morning before I opened the coop and NONE of the nest boxes were occupied. Jess quietly hops into a box and settles in. I take cardboard out, then spot the pair of red tailed hawks circling up from the pasture (never saw them on the ground). All the rest are up under the French lilac just off the deck. Move into very visible position for the hawks to see. Spot a 3rd...lose one of the others (they're getting higher and in the sun). They kept circling and Twirp came out of the coop, but stayed close to the building. I looped the coop and she went with me, back inside (smallest of the ladies). Lost the hawks, circled the garage looking. Checked on the others, where's Thing? Last I'd seen, she was under the deck by the wood pile. Nope, not there. Double back up, looking. Castor is asleep between the cinquefoil (potentilla) and the mint....Thing is in the middle of the rest of the tribe. How I missed her, I don't know. All present and accounted for.

Spring is here. The sandhill cranes are back. They take off, circle up, calling. Hawks are gone. 3 cranes seen. Hoping a pair decides to nest near by like last year. Watching the baby grow was fun. Looks like the sandhills will be good sentinels for hawk alarms/be-gones too.

She is so lovely! Aren't they each funny in their own way of building a relationship with their human!

I have to say that though I really want a cuddly chicken (and could probably have a couple if I had fewer chickens, hence more time to spend with EACH one), I also love watching the different behaviors and relish the various types of relationships I do have! I love my girls!! (I love the roosters, too...no worries, I just say 'girls' to refer to all of my chickens. It just makes my 'boys' tougher RE: A Boy Named Sue', )

I didn’t mean to be mean with that statement. It just seems like you have many rules to deal with. And I’m sorry for that.

I have to say that though I really want a cuddly chicken (and could probably have a couple if I had fewer chickens, hence more time to spend with EACH one), I also love watching the different behaviors and relish the various types of relationships I do have! I love my girls!! (I love the roosters, too...no worries, I just say 'girls' to refer to all of my chickens. It just makes my 'boys' tougher RE: A Boy Named Sue', )

I’m very fortunate that I have six snuggle hens and one very snuggly rooster . It takes time and patience to have them like this. (Coco just told me to say that)

It gets so windy and the snow is so deep here in the winter that I got up this morning and made some seasonal walls for the pen this year. Hope it works!

I know you, sadly, don't have chickens anymore{ Hope Maryann is still doing well with her new family!}, but as I play 'catch-up', I came across this and was wondering A) How well it worked/you like it, and B) How you attached it...I see the handle on the bottom, but I'm not seeing how it was connected so it stays in place.
