Yes it could very well be a monitoring thing.I have been following this on the APHIS site. There are very few cases in NJ (all ducks at Cape May) and only one in PA (dead bald eagle). None in commercial or backyard flocks in either state.
But it feels to me like that may be because if less aggressive sampling and monitoring. It is inconceivable to me that it is rife both to the North and to the South and just skip our two states.
Of course there is not much that can be done. I want to get the pool up and running before the ducks try and nest in it like last year as they are an important carrier, but beyond that just hope for the best.
It is very scary.
I was watching my gang take off across the paddock running along as a bunch of Robins also were out there - I was freaking out as I am trying to keep them contained !! Bad birdies!
