Hi, folks. I am very sad to report my sweet armpit warrior, cuddliest chicken ever Sunshine died this morning. Below is a count of how it went down. Don’t read if you are faint of heart.

She did not come down from the roost when I let them out and was in bad shape. I cuddled her and then took about ten minutes to pull together a carrier, towels, and microwaved heat disk so she’d have a safe, cozy place with her friends (I thought she would die while I was at work). When I came back out, she was even worse. I cuddled her some more and sang to her through tears. She suddenly flopped out of my lap. I picked her up and she launched again. The flock started attacking her, so I pushed them away as I picked her up, trying to be soothing. I told her “It’s OK, it’s OK” as soothingly as I could. She made a couple sad little sounds and died in my arms.

Rest in peace, my little angel. I love you so much.

The Dirty Dozen (and a half)

We were gone for the weekend and left the ladies on their own. Look what they did to their eggs! Seriously muddy feet at work.

All eggs laid in nest box #1. Of course!

I always said thank goodness for our pets. They don't judge and just take us as we are.

Unless they’re cats. Then they’re judging us all time!

I do wonder though, if @BY Bob ’s Éowyn is actually plotting world domination?

By being kind to others is how Éowyn would dominate the world. It's the small cats you need to watch out for. They are the plotters.

It seems that breathing problems are very common in this area of Central Valley CA. Dusty winds. Rows and rows of fruit and nut trees. And insecticides,

I know how bad I felt, when I had that problem. (I’m still taking medication)
