Hi, folks. I am very sad to report my sweet armpit warrior, cuddliest chicken ever Sunshine died this morning. Below is a count of how it went down. Don’t read if you are faint of heart.

She did not come down from the roost when I let them out and was in bad shape. I cuddled her and then took about ten minutes to pull together a carrier, towels, and microwaved heat disk so she’f have a safe, cozy place with her friends (I thought she would die while I was at work). When I came baxk out, she was even worse. I cuddled her some more and sang to her through tears. She suddenly flopped out of my lap. I picked her up and she launched again. The flock started attacking her, so I pushed them away as I picked her up, trying to be soothing. I told her “It’s OK, it’s OK” as soothingly as I could. She made a couple sad little sounds and died in my arms.

Rest in peace, my little angel. I love you so much.

Oh no, not Sunshine! Sweet, beautiful Sunshine.
😢
I am glad for her, and for you, that you were able to be with her at the end.
Rest in peace little one.
:hugs :hugs :hugs

The Hooligans survived the night in the cold garage. It didn’t get colder than 40 but that is still a big swing from 70 in the bathroom.
They took it in their stride. They did sleep under the heat plate rather than sprawled half outside it like they were doing. But they still came out to eat in the middle of the night.
This morning they were up before dawn and put a lot of effort into looking their best for the day ahead.
Next stop on their journey is the Chicken Palace!

They sing like song birds, beautiful! 🥰

I'm so sorry to hear this Michelle...I know you both loved each other so much!:hugs:hugs:hugs

I must have missed a post previously:oops:, as I didn't realize she wasn't feeling well.:(

Oh how sad. How old was this beautiful lady? Did u have any inkling she would pass away (I only ask as I am behind on much of the thread - work gets in the way!).
She was only 1 1/2. Just a baby, Yes, she has had some laying issues (shelled egg INSIDE membranes and egg white) a few months back, walks gingerly sometimes in the morning, and hasn’t laid in several days, despite squatting for me. She was active last night during free range time after work, so this final demise came on quickly. I knew it would come eventually, but did not expect it to be so sudden.

Awwww...I just loved the happy chickie sounds.🤗 Can't wait to start incubating mine (have to wait prescribed period so 'assigned' Roo will definitely be the 'daddy')

They are so adorable...and I always love to watch preening, dustbathing, and drinking...so feel free to post more videos of them:D
