It’s now, Arizona and Dakota! If I only had 48 more birds! Haha
Dakota = 2. Just sayin...48, then I would have one for each state in the USA![]()
That is pretty odd behaviour. I’ve had some55F and calm out. Out enjoying the sunshine. Saw some chicken behavior that has me asking: what is going on?
Thing, almost at the bottom of the pecking order, is having a stare down with Cheetah. Her head (beak level) above his, then "pecking" at his face (like grooming moves), back to staring. This lasts until Cheetah flares his hackles, pause in the stare down, more hackles flaring. with the 2nd round of hackles, Cheetah appears to attack her, whilst she runs away.
Saw 2 separate episodes of this (several minutes between) so unable to catch pics of either. This is behavior I've not seen before. it's also something that has me thinking there's more happening than I'm aware of. @Shadrach can you explain, expand, or point me towards other observations I need to look for? Anyone else?

Hopefully it will blow over somewhat given a little time, is there any what you can ease her transition by bringing her some of her favourite things from her home? Get her really settled in… sometimes familiar items or Art can help, my grandmother had a big stereo and record player and her favourite chair that we kept with her, she even was able to take her chair to the nursing home when my mom couldn’t care for her any longer.Today has been one of those days that I'm grateful I have the chickens and horses as a distraction. They kept me from fully loosing my temper several times. Grandma's appointment with the neurologist did NOT go the way she wanted it to go and he told her some things she did not want to hear. She started it off by arguing that she almost had a stroke, and he corrected her and told her that she DID have one. He also told her that the full side effects of stroke can take up to 6 months to become apparent. She told him she was going home, he told her it was either stay with us or a nursing home. She has to go back in 3 months for a memory test, she's refusing. To make her happy afterwards we took her to the grocery store, while in there she blew up and said she was not staying any longer. I lost it, and told her to tell me which nursing home to call then. She stopped arguing, but has barely spoken to me or mom the rest of the evening.
AMAZING!!! I know I’ve already said it several times, but a mama hen with her chicks is my favorite!!!I was not fully awake when I took this a few minutes ago. I realized after I uploaded the video that I was calling Baby, Bunny instead. Oh well, giving Baby the 3 chicks was a success! One of them was trying to peek out at me when I went outside and she gently tucked it back under her.
She is doing so well! I love her alertness!!Came back home from grandma's dr appointment to find Baby was ready to take the chicks out of the box. She is doing well with them.

This makes me so very happy. My three babies playing at being grown up roosting on their little branch.
Those of you who have been following Bernadette’s issues in my separate thread in the Emergencies/Diseases/Injuries forum know what a huge milestone this is for her.
