Yes - there is actually quite a lot of research on this for some weird reason. Here is one that shows baby chicks can count.

Ahhh, so Minnie was right, she can't do geometry...at least not yet. Maybe you should enroll her in a basic geometry class for chickens? Then she can help not only select plants for the chicken garden, but also help plan the layout, too! (No, that shrub should go over here...we can get some really nice low sun under it for an afternoon sunbath, but get some great shade at noon with it here!)

Just had the chicks 'out' to 'play with them'. (that really means they used me as a romper room/'hey, lets climb Mount Mommy!) They all wanted to be on a high spot and climbed my arms and shoulders. Thankfully, no one ventured onto my head (yet) It also gave me a chance to clean (AGAIN @RoyalChick ) their brooder box before returning them.

Give them time, they will be perching on your head very soon! :gig

I am really glad at least 1 more hatched. ❤️ I really hate having lone chicks. Here's hoping for the remaining two:fl
I think that’s why Deans eldest son is such a jerk… he was my only single raised last year. This Broody started out last year by fostering five meat chicks, then raising three of her own and finally a last batch of five hatched out of my friends flock because with 80 hens and only two Roosters I was having trouble picking fertilized eggs. I really do need to get those roll away nest boxes rebuilt…

Theyre growing nicely. What color are the legs on the barred chick?

How sweet. I see a chipmunk in that crowd too.
