First a sulking broody mug, how dare I open that door!

And next another sad post. It has been a difficult week/month. Last night our beautiful girl Precious Princess (we didn't name her) found her way to peace. Also about 16 years old, she fought hard at the end, but had developed a nasty infection. She and her brother Puff have been with us about 4 years. They just moved in one day and when their person (a neighbor) had to move and couldn't take them she asked if we would keep them.

Star and Precious as close as they could stand to be. RIP girls.
From four down to two in 3 weeks. It has been a shock.
My advice is don't have animals all the same age!
Hugs to you! I’m sorry for your loss. It hurts losing beloved pets.

Housing and Bird Move Update

Hi, friends. Thanks for your inquiries about the move and for all your input regarding chicken housing at the new place. I have an update. We will not be moving after all.

Drumroll, please…

We bought the house we’ve been renting the past 12 1/2 years! We are beyond excited. Just got confirmation that we officially closed and recorded with the county about an hour ago. We don’t have to move. My feathered babies don’t have to move. My human babies will always be able to come home to their childhood home. I feel truly blessed!
Congratulations Congrats GIF by SEGA

That's awesome news Michelle!!!

I currently have 34 chickens. 14 designated for egg laying and 24 silkies. I plan on hatching silkie chicks and then selling them. I first got hooked on chickens around two years ago, started with two chickens, and look where I am now!😂 Actually, 36 chickens, two chicks hatched out from a broody momma this past week. Their daddy is a grey silkie and I believe their mother is a black sex link. I'll include pictures!
I see one that looks part silkie 😊
They are all beautiful 💖

Oh that is so profound... Their society. Yes you are correct.

Sometimes I just want to control everything. Thank you for reminding me to just let it be.
I only intervene when I need to, to prevent serious injury, usually one of my Roosters will break up a hen fight if it starts to get serious, so I will also step into that role if needed. My Roosters also break up fights between the junior Roosters. Some of what you are seeing may be related to the change in the dynamic of the tribe with the current absence of a Rooster as well. They had this annoying jerk, now they don’t. I like to stop fights before there is much bloodshed, IMO hen fights seem far more vicious than the Roosters.

Best outcome possible! Congratulations ❤️❤️❤️

Technically Caturday is on @Ribh thread but it does spill over to mine as well sometimes.
Some of us can’t keep up on more threads right now… so I just try to enjoy all the photos of our fine felines, fluffy overlords, and even the horses too… I might start adding my goats in for Pony Sunday. I don’t see the horses here often enough to take many pictures of them, and goats are sort of similar, they are semi herbivores… like smaller ponies, but with horns, 😂

Beautiful purrfect girls, I’m certain as they chose to move in and let you care for them they had a lovely time with you. I am sorry for your loss, they are at peace now, but that doesn’t make it any easier for their family left behind here. ❤️ Is for the joys you shared, but mostly hugs.
